Default Sharks 3 Flames 2

Sharks 3 Flames 2

- Good first, bad second, solid third but Flames lose
- Smith continues home ice woes
- Gulutzan blenders the line to results

The Non Call

The puck was in the net before the whistle blew, don’t have a problem with that.

However if the officials new that Braun’s trip on Johnny Gaudreau would have resulted in a Sharks go ahead goal with just over three minutes to play they would have called a penalty. Referees hate deciding games, at least most of them do, so at that point they were likely more worried about the Flames turning the call into a powerplay goal than that of the Sharks marching down the ice and winning it.

Calculated risk and they lost. Happens.
Everything wrong with game management by NHL officials in a nutshell.

There is no ref who is going to call a trip with the puck handler getting pushed down with the defender's arm above the waist. It looked like Gaudreau got crumpled.

Watch it again.

He put his stick around him and in front of him. Stick got in Gaudreau's feet and down he went.

Long due to throw Lazar on waivers. His linemates Brouwer(62.5%) and Stajan(53.9%) were both in the black for possession while being buried for zone starts.

Stajan didn't have a single offensive zone start last game and still was above water, yet Lazar clocked in a paltry 33% in the same circumstances. Unacceptable. I hope Treliving does the right thing and send him to the AHL for someone who might actually provide more on a shift-to-shift basis.

I'm pretty sure Mangiapane at least wouldn't magically turn the puck into a time bomb soon as he got a pass.

How is Hrivik doing in the AHL? Face off wise. I know he's doing quite well for himself offensively but is he good at taking draws?

The effort was there in the 3rd period, but man I didn't even see the Sharks score that second goal in the 2nd period because the Flames were playing the snoozer game and I dozed off.

All I can say is that the Flames likes to give up points even if they did win. It'll be a blessing if they can start winning games outright rather than play a 50-50 game in the third period to either force OT or lose the lead to go into OT.

Local boy (Airdrie) and Calgary Canucks alumni Aaron Dell gets the W for the Sharks. Nice to see. He was our beer league goalie several years ago when our regular guy went down with an injury.

If you are saying that Gaudreau was brought down by the stick then it could have just as easily been argued that Gaudreau dove.

He didn't dive and he wasn't tripped, he was pushed over. Hard to be certain that he was even touched by the stick.... even as he was being pushed over top of it.

Regardless. it was not an obvious 4 alarm missed penalty that the refs would have called had they known that the Sharks were going down to stuff it through Smith. Same play might get called a penalty 1 time in 10 , in the 1st period, usually bay the far away ref, as a make up penalty.

His stick swings in and hits him in the skates.

If you don't want to see that I can't help you.

If you don't agree, I don't care.

But for a guy that didn't even see the stick the first time he saw it, sure looks like you're moving the goal posts.
