Yeah I get it...the future may be tough. Maybe even crippling for a couple years.

BUT

Weber has always been a better player than PK....not as good offensively, but the rest of his game was heads and shoulders above. Add in his leadership qualities (of which PK has none apparently) and yeah...really good player.

People fell in love with the Subban personality and that he could throw up some points. He was always a flawed player though. I dont think anyone saw the fall that has happened but that being said...and IMO only...that trade was always going to be a good one for MTL.

Anyhow..really wasnt pointing you out specifically but moreso how initial reactions are so wrong at times and its hilarious to go back and read.

Fans are emotional...GM's are business. Both miss the mark at times.

How is anyone surprised this happened? 100% chance if it was Calgary a similar group of people would partake in this behavior.
Bull####!! There are primarily 3 cities in Canada where people turn into idiots in large crowds. Montreal (almost every playoff), Vancouver (1994 & 2011) and Edmonton (Canada Day 2001 and to a lesser degree 2006 playoffs). All we got in Calgary was women flashing their boobies!!

Go read the Subban/Weber trade thread, and that was 5 years ago.

Even Habby was trippin out.
At the time of the trade I thought “Now the Montreal fans/media will see what a real Norris Trophy candidate looks like”. Like Toronto, the Montreal media overvalue their players. Playing in relative anonymity in Nashville, and not being a media darling like Subban, it took a while for some to realize how good Weber was.

Weber was consistently outstanding in Nashville.

Never could deny that.

Thought his decline would be steeper than it has been. His "eliteness" was absolutely forgotten in Montreal, somehow.

The especially tricky thing with Weber was that he battled a ton of injuries right after he arrived in Montreal while Subban was leading the Preds to the final.

Weber really didn't have a lot of chances to show what he could do, early on.

He was taking a lot of heat from Habs fans over his defensive gaffes earlier in the season. He was quite irritated over being questioned by the media.
