God damn... I made it all the way to the last 10 minutes of the show before someone started cutting onions out of nowhere. Really well done show, and I'm glad I watched it. Just enough balance with more light hearted stuff to make it not super depressing. Also, you had Anjo as your avatar for a while if I remember correctly - she was a good character and refreshingly open with her feelings. Most anime characters would explode before being able to say some of the things she did in front of others.

I liked both the opening and ending themes, which is rare for me at least. The ending song showing up at key moments really makes it strong too.

I see there was a movie made a couple years later...it's too bad CR doesn't have it available. Have you seen it? Is it worth watching?

I'm pretty sure I downloaded it but I haven't watched it, figured I'd have to wait a while. It's supposed to be a recap with a few more scenes, so not really sure it's worth it (not enough different). Maybe enough time has passed I could watch it again

Yeah had Anjo as my avatar, I really liked her character.

Ah okay, then I'll skip it for the time being. Recap movies generally are meh, and if you're lucky you'll get a couple tiny bits of extra character development. I learned my lesson with those a while ago.

Definitely time for something a little more cheerful - Konosuba!

Konosuba is still airing but it's been good fun so far. The animation quality is certainly worse than the 1st season with the change in studios though.

Apparently I hadn't had enough of depressing shows, so the wife and I watched Your Lie in April. The finale saved what was becoming a show a bit too heavy handed with the metaphors and relying on constant flashbacks a bit too often. Otherwise a sad, but excellent story.

Tell me about it. My heart still hurts (best description I can give) after that last episode. The wife wants to watch FMA Brotherhood next, but I need a break.

I think it looks okay. Of course many purists don't like the choices for Light or L. Makes you wonder how different this might actually be than the manga/anime.

Willem Dafoe seems like the perfect choice for Ryuk though. They might not even need special effects.

After a bit of a break, I finished Konosuba S2 and the verdict was...meh. Only 10 episodes for whatever reason, and while they started good, they really ran the early jokes into the ground. Not much of anything happened, which is pretty sad because season 1 had enough variety to keep those jokes from getting stale.

I think the hype from season 1 kind of gave it a pass in most people's eyes, though.

I believe tomorrow is the last day to watch Your Name in Calgary at Cineplex, and if you haven't seen it I greatly recommend it. Absolutely fantastic and a great movie to watch with your SO. I feel even people who are turned away by anime will really like this film. The animation and sounds are incredible and I even went to watch it twice.

I'm on a real anime kick these days, thanks largely to TFS and Dragon Ball Abridged. I rewatched Vision of Escaflowne last month, which is full of beautiful animation and a killer musical score.

After burning through all of Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, I've been watching the actual show and I'm honestly a bit disappointed how tame/not fun it is compared to the Abridged show. It's okay, but a show with the premise of Nazi vampires needs to be way less serious.

Why did I wait so long to watch One Punch Man? This is brilliant.

Right? One of my favorite punches. Don't watch unless you've watched the one with the Deep Sea King already.

Spoiler!
