I am a sucker for smart writing.

I should add that I caught the 1st episode of the BBC Sherlocke (Holmes) series (1 of 3 in season one). Thought it was great.
"The Newsroom" Just finished it's first season on HBO, all episodes were written by Aaron Sorkin (the West Wing guy) and it's great for rapid-fire, intellectual banter.

Southland
The League

They aren't really available in Canada via regular avenues, but they might be on iTunes or something. Of course, there are always ways with the interwebz....

Took the summer off from work and became a TV junkie. Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Longmire, Sons of Anarchy, Hell on Wheels, The Wire, Newsroom, Homeland...... all excellent shows.

This conversation beings and ends with Entourage (8 Seasons, Off the air) for me. 6 Solid seasons, 1 okay one, 1 bad.

I also suggest How To Make It In America (2 Seasons, Off the air). It had a very short run though.

As for actually responding to the OP:

I dont think any of these are new to this thread, but thought I would add some votes

Dexter
Sons of Anarchy
BattleStar Galactica
Firefly
I am also watching Twin Peaks and Heartland right now on Netflix and they are surprisingly good, although not nearly as good as the ones I previously listed.

Yes, Minister (and) Yes, Prime Minister are two of my favourite British shows

If you're talking back in time, both Have Gun will Travel, and Combat were good shows. (50's/60's)

There's a bunch of good shows like Miami Vice and Spenser for Hire from the 80's.

Just finished Suits yesterday. It's a really fun show. Thinking about checking out USAs other show White Collar, anyone watched this?
