Hard to find the stats, but this year in the AHL he is rocking a .909 in shootouts with 11 saves and 1 goal. I think you're right too, hard to believe that years of being discounted hasn't created a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He seems to be well aware of his game too, considering that he has said 1) the biggest adjustment in the show is how much bigger people are (ie. screens) and 2) in his latest interview he said (i think at least) "yeah, if I can see the pucks, i'll stop them".
Who knows whats going to happen, but I am ready to be hurt again like Parsons and Leland Irving have done before

Wolf's contract is over after this season.
How long do we have him under control? Is he still eligible for a 2 way deal? You would think at this point he has proven himself at the AHL and he would be looking for a 1 way contract.
Giving him a 8 year deal now would take him to 31.

VERY different era back then. I started goaltending as a kid in 1979 and it was considered a minor sin to go down to the ice back then. Started to change more thanks to Dryden a bit and then Roy made it acceptable.

Anyone can be on a two way deal I think. Mark Pysyk is on one and he's 32. I doubt he gets an 8 quite yet and he may not want to be locked in for 8 years at what he'd be offered.

Yeah was just thinking out loud about that.
I think it would be beneficial for both sides to go short term 1 way, and let him establish himself before we pay up.
a 2 or 3 year deal would get him at expiry of the next CBA and 1 year of the new one. I believe that leaves 2 more RFA years on him for us to sign him long term.

Once he's not waiver exempt he's up to stay anyway (he'd never make it through waivers) so one way v two way is moot.

Really excited to see if a Flames drafted goalie can break the mold and become a starter in this league. It's really not a pretty legacy for Flames drafting and development there. The only other Flame draft pick with an NHL job is Laurent Brossoit. Prior to him the last 2 Flames drafted goalies with NHL games are Curtis McBackup and Craig Anderson.
Dustin Wolf will have to be a trailblazer. If he does make it he is truly exceptional. Flames and drafting goaltenders is maybe a bigger monkey on the back of this franchise than #1 centers.

I was going to say what about JSG, but forgot he was actually a Hartford draft pick.

I assume you mean "had a game good enough to be a regular NHL player". Not "played NHL games".

Yeah, Irving for sure had games
edit: 13 games over two seasons. Kipper was such a machine it's wild.

Yes, and obviously so did Gillies and Ortio. But I don't think he meant that.

When I watch Wolf, I see a mixture of Jonathan Quick and Curtis Joseph.
Give him space to figure out the league a bit.

When the skill level is that high, you just let the guy bang around in the kitchen and cook.
Best at his craft in a few different leagues. Chances are he can crack this one too.

Well as they say...Girth is the great equalizer...and Wolf better eat a bit more to add that Girth. He's the opposite of Andrei Medvedev.

Maybe it's just bias on my part because people keep mentioning how small he is? 6 feet isn't that short. He's only 1 inch shorter than Kipper.

Any athlete in a contact sport that's vertically challenged or perceives themselves as that or that they're at a disadvantage needs to dedicate themselves to a Marty St Louis regimen and bulk horizontally as much as their frame will allow for. Having a lower center of gravity but also having bull-like strength can turn it into an advantage.
But I think that applies more to skaters than goalies.
