I swear, reading some of this is like watching some 4chan incels argue why girls owe them a date because they’re nice to them.
Kylington neither acted badly towards the franchise, nor was he any more critical of a contract offer than any other player/agent is. He or his agent didn’t like the offer, the Flames moved on instead of waiting, and so he signed somewhere else. Happens every year to every team. It’s called free agency.

I don't know how you can ascribe emotions to my words. But to make it explicit, I'm not upset or jilted. The next 5-7 years are largely a write-off for this franchise, so I really don't have strong feelings about any player older than 24. This was a 5/6 defenseman on a rebuilding team. Whether he plays two years with a basement dweller or not is largely inconsequential to the basement dwellers or their fans.
That said, both phrases are largely accurate and I find it curious at how much energy you're expending using ad hominem attacks for a topic no one really feels super strongly about. For example, assigning emotions to my posts to compare me to an incel. Or pointing out that words and phrases aren't the same thing.
It's pretty weird and makes you come across pretty poorly.

Sorry, which emotion did I ascribe/assign to you?
I don’t think there’s even a single word in that post that correlates to an emotion. Speaking of weird.
The incel comparison is spot on, though, and wasn’t meant as an insult, it’s just the closest comparable. You only think it’s an ad hominem because you know it’s true.

I get it why people who have suffered mental health issues, or know people who have, quickly rush to defend Kylington. But the details as they've been shared are murky at best, and disappointing at worst. If he was a dumpy dude who looked like Phil Kessel but played like David Hale, I don't think he'd get the overrated love that he gets. Letting him walk was fine. Wringing our hands over losing such an oddly beloved player, makes little sense.
Eating the $2.5 AAV for two seasons while we were pressed against the cap DID hurt the team. That's a fact. We finished 2 points short of the playoffs in 2022-23, and didn't have space to add at the deadline. Part of that constraint was caused by the Flames NOT putting OK on the LTIR.
As last season dwindled down, Kylington paid lip service to his loyalty to the team, which turned out to be a mirage. His actions spoke clearly better than his carefully selected words.
|
I'm sorry, but are you implying that people are defending Kylington because he's sexy? Like, their sexual attraction to him is blinding them to his actual talent?
Methinks one doth protesteth too mucheth. No wonder you wound like a jilted lover. It's okay if you want to admit you find Kylington sexy. You'd be surprised at how accepting this community is.

If Kylington doesn't change something he wont be in the league long anyways. You touch the guy and he flies into the boards, usually very awkwardly.
I'm glad he did get a contract as I was starting to feel bad for the fella. Shocked that he didnt sign here when the team was so understanding with him during his hard times but as stated he is a UFA.
Honestly not a big loss at all considering how many D prospects weve added over the last year.

This Definitely doesn’t come across a clever as you hoped. I hope you don’t adopt Pepsi’s posting style.

I don't have as many bad memories of Hale as most, probably because they were all overshadowed by the antics of one of his fellow d-men at the time.... the infamous Anders Erickson.
But maybe because also like Shilly, I was just distracted by his sex appeal.

Hale was a likeable guy and defensively responsible. Absolutely nothing going for him offensively, but at least he wasn’t a useless player.

Wish him a successful stop in Colorado, but I wouldn't be surprised nor sad to see a poor season as a 6/7 D-man turning into an overseas player next year.

Throwing away the opportunity to be in the top 4 on a poor roster is what surprises me the most. He could have set himself up nicely for a jump in pay while growing his game. Going to a deep Colorado team and being a bottom pair guy seems like a bad decision if his desire is to play a lot of minutes. Hard not to question his compete level when the dust has settled.

He was low on options, I think the Flames moved on

I don't see why we would be upset with him. It's pretty clear we moved on after signing Bean, and his agent really screwed up.
That being said hope he does well next year and his mental health is all good. If he plays well for Colorado I am sure he will get a nice raise and extension next year.
He isn't some amazing player but he is a solid 3rd pairing dman who can at times move up the lineup. I think Bean is a downgrade on him, which helps us potentially get a better pick as well.
All the best to Kylington. This isn't an Adam Fox situation. Just move on. We don't need to cheer him when he comes back, but I'm not going to boo him either.

If you think ‘incel’ is not a term with heavy negative connotations, I have to wonder where you've been for the last decade.
I might give you the benefit of the doubt if there were any doubt, but it's pretty clear you intended that as an insult.

Yes, starting about 4 or 5 years ago.

Oh, it’s for sure insulting. Imagine acting like an incel over a hockey player? Yeesh. I’d be embarrassed if someone pointed that out.
The insulting factor just wasn’t the reason I chose it. Again, just the closest comparable.

I wish him luck with the new team but I won't miss the wet noodle impression when he gets even slightly off balance as an opponent is skating by him.
He showed flashes of being a solid offensive defenseman but he always seemed to have a balance issue that he couldn't control and eventually wobbled its way to a fall.
