This story does not surprise me in the least. I've always had great experience with London Drugs.
In fact, when I was a kid, my dad basically bought every electronic/computer item he ever owned (along with most of my games) from London Drugs. Same went for any photo processing or photography-related purchases.
I also have only good things to say about London Drugs. Good service, and surprisingly great selection on quite a variety of items.
Their recycling programs deserve special recognition, I think. Not only do they accept drop-off of a laundry list of end-of-use products at any store location (see full list here), they've also pioneered an innovative program called "Bring Back the Pack" which guarantees acceptance of any product packaging for items purchased at London Drugs for responsible recycling. Yes, that includes food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, electronics, styrofoam - anything. All you'll need is an original receipt.
It may also be worth noting that they are the only chain store in Alberta (that I'm aware of) that still allows "coupon stacking". So, for those of you looking for extreme deals, they can still be had. (Short explanation/tutorial here.)

17th Ave one had a nice long run. I'm sorta surprised it closed.
They couldn't compete anymore with a Canadian Tire, Best Buy, and Urban Fair grocery store all opening across the street on 17th cannibalizing all their business segments.
London Drugs in Brentwood is my go-to for Apple tech repairs. They are an authorized repair centre and the tech guys in the back are old-school nerds, not the hipster doofuses that you get at the Apple store.

Holy crap, they are? Totally going there then. Apple Store is a gong show.
Funnily enough it was the Apple Store who referred me after I had an issue they themselves couldn't fix.
It's not an obvious service, as you drop your stuff off to them in the electronics department, and then one of the tech guys calls you up (often in the evening, as I think the work nights or something?). But I've had good success so far. The main guy there (Tom) is great.
There was a time in Kelowna, early 90s, when London Drugs was legitimately the best place for any computer equipment. They had a really good department, and the staff was awesome BBS nerds.

Brentwood London Drugs is also one of the best home theater stores in the city.
Why did I bump this thread? They've got a solid deal on headphones right now, 130 bucks for JBL Tune 750BTs which I imagine are built to Harman's headphone target curve. These are all 150 bucks elsewhere online. And I didn't notice that until after I bumped the thread. I was just there for a flu shot and had a nostalgia trip.
