That's as comfortable as you can get considering how close they were last week.

6 point lead

The Flames' magic number to win the conference is now 5.5. If they win 6 games, it doesn't matter if the Sharks win every remaining game on their schedule. They have VAN, LA, DAL, ANA, SJS, LA, ANA, EDM. There are 6 games in their remaining schedule against bottom-feeders. They should have this.

With few games left, that OTL goes a long way towards securing a possible tiebreaker against the sharks.

If Calgary wins 5/8 games before the shootout, they clinch first, even if San Jose wins all 7.

They only need to win 5 if it happens in regulation. .. Minus the number of games the sharks lose.

I actually think 3 regulation wins will probably do it. And that would be the sharks going 5-2 which is a reach the way they are playing.

That said the teams coming in are out of the playoffs but the ducks, kings and Canucks are not the Sens... They are fighting down the stretch and winning games. It's not a foregone conclusion.

Right. For some reason I thought Flames headed into the night with a 7 point lead.

Still, that would be the kind of lead where Flames have complete control of their destiny. Win the games they're favoured, plus the one against Sharks, and Flames have home ice during their playoffs.

De Boer throwing more shade at his goalies in the presser... Not a great approach imo for guys with fragile confidence.

If they win the ones in which they're favoured, and the one against the Sharks, then they will win all of their remaining games.

Realistically, if they beat the Sharks, they probably only have to win three other games, because this is your classic four-point game.

Us Winning against she sharks makes the math quite hard for the Sharks to pass us. The magic number drops to 3 - 3.5, with 13 other games.

If we win the 4 winnable games prior to the sharks game, and SAN Jose has lost 2 points before that game, that game no longer means anything.

All this talk is making me uncomfortable. When I look at the remaining schedule, I see a laundry list of teams that the Flames generally have trouble with:

@ Canucks
Kings
Stars
Ducks
@ Sharks
@ Kings
@ Ducks
Oilers

Teams play with pride in divisional games. There are no easy outs for the Flames there.

My biggest concern is the 3 games in 4 nights in SoCal (actually, because they play Fri/Sun/Mon/Wed, they actually have back-to-back 3 games in 4 nights runs).

Yeah, but at least the Sharks game is the first half of the back to back, so they won't be tired for that. And if you're going to face anyone on the back half, LA is possibly the slowest team in the league.

Ideal would be heading into our matchup with the Sharks on the 31st with a six or seven point lead.

Win and we clinch 1st. Lose and we still have three cracks to do it.

Even a 5 point cushion going in means a division title if we win.

5 games against bottom feeders. Should be a virtual lock.

But I've been a Flames fan for too long to believe that.

Hopefully we don't get "Markstrom'ed" again in the nucklehead game. If the Flames handle their business like they have most of the year so far, the Sharks game could be a chance to clinch.

Pretty good night tonight. Sharks only get one point as their slide continues. The Wild Win and jump basically 7 points up on the Soilers

Markstrom is the only thing that worries me about tomorrow night's game. For some reason that dude really seems to have our number.
