I am predicting right now that Kristian Vesalainen will be the Flames 1st round pick this June.

He's dominating the u18s

Do we know where we're drafting yet? I can't remember how seeding works for teams in the playoffs. Is it the order you get knocked out?

17th if the Predators don't make the conference finals, 16th if they do.

From first Glance, theres a couple of okay options in the 15-18 range. Weak drafts like this I believe D men jump up higher.
I need to brush up on this draft as I haven't really paid too much attention. I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames had 1-2 at the top of their list and if they're gone, the pick would be traded.

He is doing well at the u18s, but if you look at the larger sample size of the rest of the season he is doing horrible.
The u18 performance will bring up his stock, but he was a candidate to fall out of the 1st round a few weeks ago after being a projected top 10 pick last fall.
I wouldn't be opposed to picking him up though, if the scouts felt the u18 performance is more representative of his true potential.

"The flames select Niklas Sunblad"
"The Flames select Jesper Mattson"
This is why I can't get excited about us going after a scandanavian project winger with our first pick.
BPA, but hoping it's not a scandanavian project winger.

Listening to dobber prospects podcast the other day and Grant McCagg was on and has him ahead of Patrick in his draft rankings. No idea McCaggs track record is in terms of getting rankings right, but thought it was interesting he had him so high.
He discusses why on his twitter @grantmccagg

He's the Eklund of scouts. Just looking for clicks. Entertaining at least.

Draft Pick
|
For me it's
Eeli Toivanen
Nick Suzuki
Cal Foote
Cody Glass
In that order but unlikely to get any of them. In which case I'd probably go with Andersson if nobody else drops

I think Zablocki is a heck of a player. Skilled and plays with an edge. I'd be quite happy if the Flames picked him up this draft.
