Has Luke Schenn played on a powerplay since he was a rookie in Toronto?

It ended with 8 goals on 34 shots. Yikes! We have seen 3 goalies from a team play in these playoffs, maybe the Isles will start Chris Gibson if Greiss and Varlomov don't improve quickly.

Pretty obvious that I will be jumping on the Islanders bandwagon for this one. Hopefully Barry Trotz can knock off the lightning like he did in 2018 with the Capitals!
Go Islanders Go!

Yep, I'm with you on the Islanders bandwagon. The Isles did it right back then against the Flames arch rivals. It's too bad the Isles couldn't win 5 straight Cups as they lost to the Oilers in the rematch a year after. In 2004, the Isles lost to the Bolts and again in 2016. It will be 3rd time lucky for the Islanders!

Just a ridiculously deep team. And they're missing Stamkos.
|
Here's the best part:
Point - 79 overall
Kucherov - 58 overall
Johnson - Undrafted Free Agent
Palat - 208 overall
Cirelli - 72 overall
Gourde - Undrafted Free Agent
Killorn - 77 overall
Paquette - 101 overall
Coleman - Trade
Goodrow - Trade
Maroon - Free Agent
Perks of drafting well in the later rounds and being able to identify players that developed post draft like Johnson and Gourde.

I was looking forward to seeing how the Isles defensive system stacked up against the firepower of the Bolts. I guess we found out last night!

Lots of series left, but the Tampa fire power is just too much. Imagine if Stamkos was available too.
I’ve said before I don’t hate Tampa as much as a bonafide Flames fan rightfully should.

I pretty much always cheer for the underdog. It means almost always being disappointed, which Im used to as a Flames fan. But when the underdog you've been pulling for actually wins, it's glorious.
Nothing against this version of the Bolts. But they are really good, so screw them. Go Islanders!

I wish Tampa had uniforms that were as cool as their players.
They've been around almost 30 years now and yet their jerseys have always stunk.

I've never really hated them ever after 2004. It wasn't their fault the goal didn't count. It wasn't their fault they won when the Flames put in a less than great game in game 7. At most MSL cheated a bit in the play leading to the game 6 "winning" goal. But I never really liked him much anyway (I didn't like the todo about Olympic snubs). And Torts was a bit of dick, but I don't even mind him post-Canucks.
The rest of that team - Lecavallier, Andreychuk, Boyle, Richards, Sarich, Stillman, Modin - not really hateable.

History isn't on the Islanders side.
Teams wearing orange and blue traditionally suck on Rogers Place ice.

The current simple blue and whites are definitely light-years better than their roller hockey jerseys of old.

I’m a big Torts fan myself. And yeah not a lot to hate on the team, even MSL you have to give respect to for how hard he worked to become the player he was.

On hearing Point was selected in the 3rd round
Goes and check what draft
2014....
My mind is saying don't look at the list, don't look at the list..
Look at the flames draft picks before Point. Sadness ensures...
Flames 3rd round pick - Brandon Hickey - pick 64. Point - Pick 79

That is the nature of drafting 18 year olds. Hickey was looking like a pretty good pick there, if I recall correctly. Part of the World Junior team, important part of a good college team. Just didn't progress that way to the show. Still, I wish we had Point, he is excellent.

Hickey was an ok pick at the time. It was Hunter Smith that's the real piss off. I recall a lot of people here were already skeptical of that pick at the time, and people were screaming for Point instead. Guess the Flames really missed the boat on drafting a potential local guy as their superstar. Not saying Point would have developed the same way in Calgary necessarily, but he would have been a lot better than Hunter Fricking Smith.

Even the Lightning passed over Point and took Jonathan McLeod in the late second
The entire nhl missed on him
Though I suspect he’s a reason why smaller players now are more likely to go early
