I think a potential issue with high end coaches is their willingness to come here. I assume those can largely pick where they want to be. I think Calgary probably sits in the bottom part of the league for premium coaching spots.

Wasn't Talbot lights out during the Oilers playoff run?

Aye, very true. I just hope they're willing to spend to the degree required to draw one here, which we've heard they haven't shown the willingness to do in years past (or at least speculated in local media that this is the case).

You hope Treliving has "learned his lessons"? He has been targeting high-end goalies since he arrived in Calgary. There is a laundry list of reasons why he has so far failed to acquire one, but it sure isn't because this is a problem he has been somehow overlooking or oblivious to.

Without meddling from above, Ben Bishop and his last 3 season of .923 save% and 2.33 GAA are in CGY instead of DAL.
I wonder how round 1 against the Ducks goes in 2017 if we have Bishop in net instead of Moose letting in goals from the half wall?

Don't think the Flames have the cap space to make a huge splash on the goatlender front.
Also not sure I want them to win that derby for a 30 year old goaltender.

Taking a while to get to 5000

With goaltending, Treliving seems to have been snake bitten. Certainly doesn't seem for a lack of trying though I would suspect that Lehner is a pipe dream here given the Flames (and others) let him sit as a UFA in 2018.

Yeah, I would be surprised if the Flames went big-game hunting for a UFA goalie this off-season. It doesn't work within the current cap structure without significant changes to the roster elsewhere.

Never been a fan of Lehner.
I like Markstrom more, and he seems to be coming into his own now.
If they do go UFA goalie hunting for a starter, they need to move Rittich somewhere. They cannot afford to have $7 million or more tied up in goaltending if they want to shore up the defense and bolster the top 6.
Not unless something weird happens, like Lucic retiring, getting moved somehow, or developing a Hossa-like allergy to hockey equipment.

At some point you need to give Rittich a shot in the playoffs sink or swim. It's not like they are putting Price on the bench. If both guys are basically equal I can understand starting the guy more likely to be here next season.
