Stop me if you have heard this before. San Diego Padres have hit a grand slam. They’ve hit 7 total this year. The MLB record in a 162 game season is 14 (2000 A’s, 2006 Indians). Could they break that record?

Not likely, they only have 17 games left. If the question was 'could they have' then ya, they would have had a decent chance with 7 in 43 games in a 162 game season.

That is a pretty crazy stat though.

Trout also has 201 career SB. He's the fastest player in MLB history to reach 300 career HR and 200 SB, passing Willie Mays.

Trout really is an amazingly dominant player. Humble too. How in the modern era is the guy not recognized as the face of the game? The video describes why but it’s still a head scratcher even as a fan that the guy himself doesn’t sell out a game based on his name. His numbers have always been incredible and it’s awesome that he’s not destined to be a Yankee or Red Sox anytime.

Ha ha stupid Brewers could only muster a measly 19 against the Tigers today. Fitting with tomorrow being opening night of the NFL season.

Shhhhhh, the current manager of the team that did that doesn't like it when a team puts up BIG numbers.

Who had the White Sox as the first AL team to clinch a playoff spot?

I am calling it a tie with the Rays! It isn't that same level of excitement with so many teams getting in

Should probably get used to it, sounds like MLB wants to keep the 16 team playoff format going forward.

Justin Verlander getting Tommy John surgery. But before you feel too bad for him, he is still married to Kate Upton and will get paid $33 million next year while recovering before becoming a UFA.

Seems pointless to play 162 games if the only reward is getting home field advantage in way-to-short playoff series - especially a 3 game series.

They had it right with the two wildcard teams having a one game playoff as it was always exciting and gave enough of a race at the end of the year for those two spots. You were also rewarded with and division series birth for winning the division.

Baseball is just way too high variance to have a 3 game playoff series and call it fair.

Another way is to use the do it the NBA way.

1 v 8 and 2 v 7 (road team must win both games in the home team's park)
3 v 6 and 4 v 5 (best of 3 all in the home team's park)

I've stated this before, in Japan, if you don't win your league, you get ZERO home playoff games until the Final Series. There was a team, I believe a couple years ago, who from the 3rd spot, played 13 consecutive road games before hosting Game 3 of the Finals.

Andrelton Simmons opts out of remainder of season. There's 6 games left in the season, Angels aren't making the playoffs either. lol
