Wild Wing/Buffalo Wild Wings
So the last few months have seen a couple of large wing chains open up in Calgary.
Wild Wing is on 17th Ave at 11th St. I haven't tried it yet.
Buffalo Wild Wings is in the Brick/Chapters plaza on Macleod Trail south of Heritage.
I stopped in there last week and tried some the Asian Zing wings - amazing! I like the sports bar atmosphere but it's terrible timing to open up in this market right as the NHL goes into lockout. I'd definitely enjoy spending an NFL Sunday there, though.
Anybody been to either of these places and have any thoughts or wing suggestions?

I love Buffalo Wild Wings. They are a staple here in Oklahoma. I would suggest the Garlic Parm wings, the Sweet BBQ, and if you like the heat Mango Habenero is a must. They also have some BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos that are delicious.
Oh and expert BWW tip. Order Buffalo Chips with cheese and some Desert Heat sprinkled on the top. Dip them in ranch and enjoy. You can thank me later.

I worked at Buffalo Wild Wings as a cook for about 3 years while in college. They were seriously good about everyone having their specific cleaning duties at the end of a shift, but that didn’t fix some of the other issues.
Everything but produce (lettuce, onion, tomato, celery) is frozen. Chicken, burgers, wings, appetizers, mac and cheese, and so on. I like to cook so this was especially demoralizing for me as the most creative thing I could do is make a wrap or grill a burger. Ugh

Oh no, this is not good. I have been in the kitchens of two national chains that take the same approach. This approach leads to lazy, dirty employees.

Ordering anything but wings at BWW's is pure idiocy, and I'm okay with something like wings coming frozen. That said, there are much better wing options in Calgary.

I'm not really okay with a chicken wing restaurant using frozen chicken wings. It's different if you're talking about a bar selling wings for a 25 cent wing night, but when the entire premise of their restaurant is the chicken wing, and they can't be assed to use fresh chicken, I don't think I can be bothered to give them my business. It seems like a pretty big slap in the face to the customer considering the prices they charge for a dozen wings.

Most restaurants use frozen wings. I've worked at 5 different restaurants, and they all did. You buy them in big bulk bags. It's what happens after the wings thaw that makes the difference.
Not only did all of these places use frozen wings, they also used frozen steaks, burgers, etc...In fact, all of the meat was delivered frozen and kept in the freezer.

I believe Wild Wing is shut down - some new name is up where it used to be on 17th.
Not surprising - every time we drove by there it was empty - that Goth & ivy place next door seems quite popular however.

This guy has set a goal of eating 2012 chicken wings in 2012, an average of 39 per week. I think he only mentions two places in Calgary, The Bottlehouse in Kensington and Bootlegers in NE Calgary.

On a related note, if anyone is a fan of psycho hot wings try the death wings at Jetz in the Port O Call Inn. Hottest wings I've ever tasted and they still have good flavor.

Went to Wild Wings on 17th once and it was pretty bad and way too expensive. Not too surprised it's being shut down. You can walk down 17th and find a pub with a wing night pretty much every night of the week, opening up a place that doesn't sell cheap wings seemed like a pretty terrible idea to me.

I have yet to try anything that beat studio 82's Rosanne wings. I also tried their ghost pepper wings but that was just pure fire, obviously.
Horny Toad also has really good hot wings.

I didn't know they had a ghost pepper wing. The Johnny is already in the 'uncomfortably spicy' territory, where after your first 4 or 5 you don't really feel like finishing the other 5. How does the ghost pepper wing compare? Does it have a nice flavor at least?
