I should be more excited considering Australia and Canada have never been in the world cup at the same time and my favourite Euro team Wales is there too. Tough to forget Australia bid for this tournament and got 1 vote (I guess from themselves?) and now it's in a silly location in a challenging time zone for me.
Hoping my teams can each pull off one win and maybe get through with a draw and some luck. Of note for Canada is Australia's only appearance in the round of 16 in 2006 came from a 1-1-1 record with a draw against Croatia who they beat out.

And why not.
Draw against Croatia and finish the round vs Morocco, knowing what goal differential you need to advance.
I will be in Montreal for the Sunday game. That should be fun
8 goals in all competitions this year, has played in big matches, has scored in big games. That's a guy I'd want to have on my bench to be able to bring in when we might need a goal in a big spot.

Yeah, but they're taking Dani Alves for...'experience.'
Anyways, I support the World Cup similarly to how I support Olympic Hockey, I want my team to win, but not at the expense of my club players.
So go chill on Copacabana Bobby!

Handing the World Cup to Qatar was a “mistake” and a “bad choice” according to the former Fifa president Sepp Blatter, who has repeated claims the decision was a result of secret political pressure.
Blatter says that the tournament was handed to the Gulf state because of the actions of the former Uefa president Michel Platini, under pressure from France’s then president, Nicolas Sarkozy.
“For me it is clear: Qatar is a mistake. The choice was bad,” Blatter told the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger. “At the time, we actually agreed in the executive committee that Russia should get the 2018 World Cup and the USA that of 2022. It would have been a gesture of peace if the two longstanding political opponents had hosted the World Cup one after the other.”
I wish nothing but good luck to our team, but I can’t with any conscience watch this festival of greed and hypocrisy.
This does nothing for the sport other than drag it in to the gutter. That Canada finally has a team qualify for the first time in decades, is wonderful. That it is in Qatar, well that is a tragedy.

We have (arguably) the single best player of both squads, AND, the better coach. We also don't have a media corps that pursues burying it's national team, and ultimately have a confident group of underdogs, that has a grateful & humble past.

Those traits will surprise.
Further, and this can be important, but we also dont have the weight of expectations.
Beware a team with an 'Us against the World' attitude and nothing to lose.

3rd game vs Morroco should (haven't checked, though I assume because that's they way it has been in previous WCs) be held at the same time that Croatia plays Belgium.
If Canada has lost vs BEL and tied CRO, and Croatia and Belgium have both beat Morocco, Canada would need BEL of course to win over Morocco and then yes goal difference, but with games going on at same time, they won't know fully in advance how many they need to win by.
Instituted due to shadiness back in the day, such as Argentina knowing the day before of needing to win by 6 to win their 2nd phase group at home in 1978, and of course they won by 6 and kicked Brazil out.

Netflix's 'FIFA Uncovered' Docu-series is a lot of fun.
I mean...we're not breaking any new ground here, FIFA took corruption and dialed it up to 11.
Awarding Russia and Qatar at the same time so the sitting committees could take maximum bribes before riding off into the sunset was as plain as day.
I'm glad it pissed off the USA to the point where they actually mobilized some of their influence to actually do something about it but I dont think Warner, Glazer, Platini or Blatter & Co. actually ever suffered any real consequences.
Nobody spent a day in jail, maybe a few bucks were paid back? I'm not entirely sure about that either.
