Canada penalized in the Mixed 2000m Short Track relay.

Very disappointing, as a medal was right there for grabs.

Damn.

Very disappointing with the short track. Homan and Morris now in sole possession of 4th place now though

Honestly have no idea how they can figure out who fouled who there. Sucks for Canada.

Some disappointment for sure but definitely nice to get 2 medals today and a huge win for Homan/Morris.

Who is this young Italian pair? 6-0 in the mixed curling so far!

We are 20+ years into Womens Hockey in the Olympics and we are still destroying every other team except the Americans. I am all in favour of cancelling this from the games. What a joke.

Who didn't??

It just sounds so much cooler when Steve Armitage says it though.

Agreed, outside of Canada and the US the game really isn't showing that much that's interesting or improving.

They could literally do a best of three series between Canada and the US and call it a day.

Watching double digit blowouts isn't interesting or inspirational.

You guy's views are a little Canada-centric. There is movement in the lower ranks. Like how Japan keeps beating Sweden. If Japan can get a bronze medal or 4th in these games, it would be pretty huge. They need to win Group B to set up an easier QF (perhaps against ROC). 2nd or 3rd in Group B would mean a date with US and Canada which is a really stupid format. So the Japan-Czech game coming up is huge.

The main problem is the format. Having Group A and B is incredibly stupid and just shows IIHF greed. US and Canada are already dominant, don't need to play in the group stage and they're guaranteed cupcake quarterfinals. If a Group B team happens to be better than their seeding and can go on a run, they're going to get hampered later on anyways whereas Suisse can get destroyed 4 games and they're fine. Make two equal groups like the World Juniors and have crossovers. That's how you're going to get upsets because you could get some crazy generational team finishing 2nd or 3rd in a group and knocking out someone like a Suisse in the group phase.

Is there another Olympic sport with such disparity at the top? Countries like Norway dominate cross country skiing but they’re not lapping their field in every race.

Sure. China dominates ping pong and diving. Usa dominates basketball. Korea dominates archery. At least women's hockey has Canada and US

China dominates diving but the scores are competitive amongst the top divers. Basketball has changed a lot, USA does not steamroller everybody anymore at all. I looked up archery and you had gold medalists from many different countries over the years.

All feel quite different from the womens hockey competition IMO.

Womens basketball US has won 9 of the 10 golds, 1992 the exception.

Womens hockey is not competitive. There'd jiggling from 3 to 8 but not the top two unfortunately. Not sure what can be done about it.

Womens basketball is a decent comparable but even those scores are within reason when USA plays other good countries.

Maybe the gap narrows in hockey over time but it doesn’t make for much of a tournament.

Canada won 6 of the first 7 Olympic Gold Medals in Men's Ice Hockey - with the other being Great Britain, which was likely mostly Canadians as well. Then the USSR won 8 of the next 10.

I didn't dig into all the scores, but in the first 3 games of the 1924 Olympic Winter Games (the first Winter games, even though Ice Hockey was in the 1920 Summer Games), Canada scored 85 goals, with no goals against.

So it's certainly not unprecedented, but it would be nice to see the rest of the world start catching up faster.

Not only lapping the field but handing out wedgies and swirlies on the way by.

With Men's hockey, the Canadian teams dominated, but you saw the improvements in the other nations, especially the Russians and the Swedes. I'm not seeing Woman's hockey being taken seriously as an Olympic sport except in Canada and the US.

Frankly, its just not enjoyable or fun to watch until the final.

There are two nations taking it seriously, that's not enough to keep it as an Olympic event.
