And honestly, even with how dumb the average Oiler fan is, I think they even realize they stole that one.
This was probably the worst case scenario for them. Team is still trash and the scapegoat was the reason it was close.

I said it in the thread, but Markstrom I don't feel is a consistent enough goalie to be considered good. You expect your #1 goalie to make a few great stops per game, and limit the questionable ones to one or two every several games.
Aside from his hot start earlier in the season, I feel he's been pretty average to mediocre for the most part. Not doing enough to win games to keep the game tied, or his team ahead when the team isn't lighting it up. Too many times you can say the opposing goalie was better than him.
Don't see him as a long term option to run with.

I don't know why folks are blaming markstrom. The pp goals, we're seeing eye shots. Game winning goal, Tanev got completely undressed by draisatl.

Koskinen made some pretty ridiculous saves that I’m not sure he even knew what he was doing on. Flames were unlucky, they played well, missed interference call and then 29 walked in and scored. Too bad. Flames will rebound; they play too well not to right the ship.

Yeah, there is no way that game is officiated the same in the playoffs. Move on and keep winning. Sorry Tippet. You are sticking around.

I disagree that Koskinen was good tonight. I think outside of Mangiapane our bottom-9 just isn’t good. At all.

Not a fan of Markstrom or Backlund in particular these days.
Lots of problems with this line up.

Context
They didn't play down to the Oilers level

On the brightside Tippett lives to see another day.
A new coach might give them enough to salvage the season. As it is the Oilers are still no good and won't make the playoffs.

What makes that game so much worse was the Oilers homer broadcast crew what a joke
Debrusk admits there is even interference on the game winning goal but it was the Oilers that scored so no problem o well he probably scores anyway yada yada
Hearing how passionate he got after a few jerseys are thrown on the ice you think he would have more to say about the game being called fairly and ending on a bad goal

He didn't though. He had his back to the interference that took out his defensive partner. From his perspective, Draisatl was making a really strange move to the middle of the ice, which should have been cut off by Kylington.

Backlund had 2 great passes to set Mangi and Hanifin up for Grade A chances that both could have / should have been goals IMO.

Flames didn’t lose because of officials, coaching, strategy, or the announce team.
It’s an athletic competition and you need to make big plays to win typically. The Flames just weren’t able to do that.

Good thing the Flames are going to trade a 1st for superstar Ben Chiarot.. it was an okay game but team continues to need more scorers and Markstrom has been playing pretty crappy lately.

Honestly, that game is 100% on the officials and nothing else. I don’t know if it will happen but I really hope Sutter calls them out for that piss poor performance. I just watched the replay again of the winning goal, that was a shocking non call.

I was wondering what was going on with the tied up Flames player coming back on that GWG.
The fuq, refs?!
Oilers would be peeing blood if it was the other way around.

Honestly Markstrom blew it.
Two untipped point shots made it go from 2-0 to 2-2 really quick.
The 3-2 wasn’t great either.
And Tanev is expecting to have Center help there, but Kylington got taken out with interference. That should have been a penalty and it was BS with the soft interference they called earlier in the game

That Perlini goal was absolutely stoppable. Any average NHL goalie should be able to stop that.
