I was never in favour of the deal, so I think it's OK. With the new normal it might be better to rethink big event centres and how much taxpayers should put into them.

By the time they sort this out, it’ll be another year delayed. And “no” you may not use the savings in Quebec.

Some intense overreactions here after hearing one persons version of events. Cue the insults and name calling.

Wasn't a fan of the deal up front....but this is not a case of cost overruns. This is a at best a case of scope creep and at worst a sinister mayor trying to torpedo a done deal with extra pork.
"Climate Mitigation" is not unknown Geotechnical issues or steel price escalation. This reeks of a council that decided after the fact that extra berms or worse...higher efficient systems/insulation needed to be used.
"Sidewalk etc upgrades" sounds like the city is changing its design or spec on something that should have been covered a long time ago.
To me the only question is...did she torpedo this on purpose...or is she so incompetent negotiating modern engineering/infrastructure projects that this was an inevitable outcome...

There was never a chance jyoti honoured the deal... probably came down to the “climate emergency” we have here in Calgary and wanting kickbacks from CSEC to cover that

So why is it a problem for the City to come forward with some changes? The City cooperated with CSEC when they wanted to punt CMLC as project managers, and they changed other things in the agreement in July. Things can change even during construction and that isn't unusual. These aren't critical changes to the project by the sounds and money costs of it, either.

Gondek is terrible. She can use the money from scrapping the deal to waste fighting the Quebec government. What a joke.

Google tells me Murray is now worth $2 billion US dollars. The $12 million or so in extra costs should seem like a pittance to him.
One would have to think that the last budget for this project is way low and people are getting cold feet. Mix in what is a very uncertain future for sports events played in front of 20,000 people again, plus the empty seats that we have been seeing here and the spectre of possibly selling the flames for what $600 million US.
Seems easy to see the writing on the wall

Sounds like the city is asking for the flames to “share” in costs that the city thinks are needed, when really they’re dumb. In this current economy I wouldn’t want to be forking out $4m for climate mitigation or $10 for ####ing sidewalks.

Yup, 9.7 million dollars is almost a rounding error in a project like this. The Flames want more accommodations from the City I bet or there is something else we likely won't find out if it actually gets scuttled. Also feels like it could be a message on the 50% capacity limit to Kenney.
Should have broken ground before asking for more money though lol

Not super surprised this drops on the heels of games being postponed and capacity limits dropping.
