Could either side sue over this? How is this legal at this point?

Kinda with Comixzone on this one. This seems more like a city issue than the Flames being the bad guys here.

I'd like to know what these "climate mitigations" are. Depending on the details you could possibly argue those are to the account of the arena.

One would have to believe any new building is better from an emissions perspective than the Saddledome.

The roadway and sidewalks are to the account of the City and nobody else.

Need more information, but I doubt we will get any.

As approved the Flames had said they were going to do some work to green the building - considering solar panels, green energy sources, etc. It was kind of vague all along though.

The crying shame in all of this is that you have three powerful groups in this city that absolutely do not want to do business with each other.

Imagine all of the nice things we'd have if CSEC, the Stampede board and the City could check their egos and find a solution. . .

The reasons are smoke and mirrors, they are getting cold feet on the project itself after having material escalation and supply issues. These guys are seeing it in their core businesses and don't want to shoulder the overruns. They pissed away the downturn and now costs are rising again.

City should have waited on asking for more money when it was going. This isn't over 10 million dollars. I am guessing material and equipment costs have increased by at least 50%.
If city blinks and agrees to dropping those costs I am guessing Edwards still tries something.

Murray Edwards is a scumbag. This kind of knee jerk reaction is exactly the type of garbage we should all expect from him.

He’s not walking away. This is just his way to put pressure on the city. This is a pissing contest, nothing more. He’s trying to show Gondek that he has the upper hand.

They did that. There’s no reason this deal should have been killed. This is, in my opinion, pure incompetence from our Mayor.

What a disappointment.

If this were anything other than the City trying to change the terms of the agreement, there would be nothing for the City to go back and ask the Flames for.

I'm not giving the Murray Edwards the benefit of the doubt here given how the companies he owns are run. For me, it's on CSEC to prove otherwise here.

I’m sick of the flames. Throughout the entire arena process they’ve treated us as lackeys and not partners. At this point,if they want to leave the deal then that’s fine.

Yup. This is exactly the reputation Murray Edwards has at the bargaining table. Not surprising at all.

If they had an agreement, they why are the Flames having a hissy fit and pulling out?

Any sane non scumbag would just say “no, not covering those costs, we already have an agreement.”

Of course edwards didn’t do that. This way he can put Gondek in her place and prove to her who’s in charge. This is purely vindictive.
