wow Tony Dalton is amazing. The episode was a bit of a filler one setting up future events, but even so, I felt there was good tension with the Germany story. While we are not particularly vested in the wife, I really found myself rooting for her to make it.
The Howard story line is so interesting at the meta level. If I did not have such confidence in the creative team, I would be worried they are wasting their last season. But I am assuming it will all come together and I will be satisfied with how it plays out. I guess I'm just worried we'll have a GoT situation where it goes off the rails at the end!
But then I have to remind myself that the overall arc of the show is how Jimmy McGill becomes Saul Goodman. And I have to imagine that this Howard story is going to get Jimmy his settlement money and afford him the lavish lifestyle we saw getting torn down in the season opening flash forward. Certainly a lot of that was afforded based on Walt and Jesse's earnings, but I have to think to fully transform by shows end that he has to already be living that life of luxury.

Right now Barry has only had three seasons, Game of Thrones had four of the best seasons ever before it fell off the rails so that consistency over many seasons is key. Since 2008 Vince Gilligan has given us two series spanning 117 episodes and a Netflix movie, all of the highest quality.
This combined series really stands alone.

Next week's mid-season finale looks like it's going to be insane. All of this story building since the Nacho episode is going to pay off.
Seems like Howard is doomed. Looks like they showed his loveless marriage to build up sympathy for him.

This last episode did feel more like filler than any in recent memory. In general they strike a nice balance between story building and execution, but this past one fell pretty flat for me. Like 2 weeks ago the tension with Lalo and the wife gave that episode a lot of excitement. Just wasn't the same in this one. Having the Kim flashback and Howard backstory at the beginning slowed it down a lot.
Minor complaint for a still excellent show.

If you've ever gone back and watched Breaking Bad you'll realize that few scenes and especially full episodes are filler. That opening scene with Kim and her mom was great.

Just about through a BB/BCS rewatch up to the current episode. I haven't watched the latest episode, but have watched everything leading up to it. It helped refresh a few visual references and callbacks I think I was missing due to the long hiatus between S5 & S6.
