No one has even mentioned the potential of game fixing.

It's dystopically bad at this point. Media narratives driving artificial excitement, and the idea that there's lots of big money just around the corner for all of us if only we'd give it a shot.

Jesus. No thanks. No thanks to all of it.

I just want a tiny bit of integrity. But it's too much to ask.

Hearing the perspective that the move towards increased connection with sports betting may be part of the NHL's long term strategy using their increased data metrics is saddening. Sports betting is the kind of thing that can take over and end up making the sport secondary to the betting experience. Not of much interest to me.

Hadn't thought of it before, but now that you mention it I guess we might have one more tool to use against the Oilers since the grease signed Kane....

The more mainstream and regulated sports betting is the less likely for fixing games

That’s a part of why I’ve lost interest in the NFL.

As another poster put it, this is like the dot com tech bubble. There is no way all these companies will make it. Come NFL season there will be a new influx with a couple guys who don't take customers dropping out. Eventually it will whittle down .

I will admit that I do gamble. Have done so for a few years. I have studied it a bit, and really hockey might have some angles you can take advantage of as the handicappers are not as good as they are in football or basketball. But if you play parlay and props and chase bigger payouts, you will lose. Fact is that 99% of us will lose if you do exercise restraint and patience, and it's important to know that, set a budget and attempt to have some type of strategy, and be able to walk away. To me it's a hobby and really that's how everyone should treat it.

To win at gambling take advantage of all the deposit matching and bonuses the sites offer

They are all 100% in acquisition mode and will literally pay you to play - and continue to do so

I pretty much only do parlays but I do them on 12 game nights and buy a 50cent ticket or 2. They are a lottery ticket basically. But more fun.

The game hasn't even started yet and the gambling ads have already pissed me off.

It's f'ing repulsive.

In an ideal world, gambling can be a healthy hobby. With the NFL, fantasy football in particular has made the NFL infinitely more watchable; gambling can also make sports viewing more enjoyable. If you don't care to gamble, that's fine -- there are people who also watch NFL and don't play fantasy football. Different strokes for different folks. Overall, There is a huge market of new gamblers waiting -- that is why you see so many marketing dollars being thrown at it.

-If you are interested in gambling, there have been some good things mentioned here.

1) Chase promos. Most operators offer very generous signup bonuses to attract new customers, hoping they stay afterwards.

2) Be smart with your budget. Don't gamble more than you are willing to lose.

3) Use these sites to make educated bets amongst your friends. In these cases, it should not cost you money in the long run.

Some nitpicks with the above post. -Parlays are not inherently worse than other bets; what they do is allow you to wager money you win from one bet, and risk it on another. Parlays can actually be more advantageous if you believe two events are correlated -- If you think the Dallas Stars will only beat the Flames in a low scoring goalie-fest, parlaying Dallas + Under is a smarter play than betting each individually. -Props are literally the most beatable sports bets you can make, though they come with a higher house advantage.

Part of the intermission is a betting segment. Pretty gross.

Only thing gross is how pointless it is ! Give me some insights or arbitrage opportunities ! I can look up the odds myself !

The entire intermission should be gambling experts on the bets to beat the house for each period !
