Shapo has a tough opening round match against the young Danish kid Holger Rune. I think Denis will win, but I honesty wouldn't be surprised if it goes five sets.

Yogurt’s odds should not be in the same universe as Rafa’s.

Well, he did make the final last year and he has a great draw this year. He can sit back and watch Rafa, Novak, and Charlie beat each other's brains out.

Felix lost the first two sets to Varillas, but then proceeded to win the next two sets and thus we find ourselves in set 5.

Thiem is out first round. Hot take, at his best he was better than Novak on clay just ran into prime Nadal year after year after year.

Varillas is playing well, but he did go through qualifying. You wonder if it is starting to show in his legs.
Edit: MTO for Varillas (looks like a cut on his ring finger)

Wow, great forehand cross-court for Felix to get the break and now he is serving for the match at 5-3 in set 5.

2-6 2-6 6-1 6-3 6-3 as Felix survives Varillas who gave the Canadian all he could handle today.
Edit: That's the first time Felix has comeback from being two sets down to win.

Thiem's first ATP title was in 2014... THAT'S when you think prime Nadal was? I would have put it somewhere in the 2007-2010 range.

Rebecca Marino hanging in there with Coco Gauff and saves three set points before breaking to get back on serve in the opening set.

Nadal has had so many great years on clay, but his stretch from 2017-2020 he was unbeatable at the French Open including going 3-0 against Thiem and winning back to back finals against Thiem.

Coco breaks to take the opening set 7-5. This is the best tennis I've seen Rebecca play in quite some time, hopefully she can continue this high level of play in set 2.
Edit: Tough second set for Rebecca as Coco delivers a bagel.

Speaking of bagels, Leylah just cooked one up for Mladenovic.

Leylah breaks to get back on serve in set 2 at 5-5
Edit: Consolidates the break and Mladenovic is serving to stay in the match at 5-6

French crowd trying to intimidate the umpire, but the ball was clearly out. Of course, if we had electronic line calling, this wouldn't be an issue.

Also, Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina upset Aslan Karatsev in five sets (went to a 10 point tie-break in set 5) and will take on Felix on Wednesday.
