Default Looking for landlords to talk with about the industry

Hey everyone,

I'm the co-founder of a local startup in Calgary called Pensio (http://pensio.ca) and we're looking for landlords to talk with about their experience. We're not looking to sell anything, just looking for some insights into the industry. If you're interested, please head over to the site or fire me an email(mark[at]pensio.ca).

Greatly appreciated.

I'll probably contact him, I know there's tools out there for keeping track of good/bad tenants but I don't think there's any for Canada.

We haven't seen anything for Canada so that's the space we'd like to fill. Keep seeing too many landlords getting burned by bad tenants.

Just keep in mind this is someone else's online community and you're coming here to solicit something that will (you hope) ultimately mean profit for you, which isn't quite free advertising but is still seeking something beneficial from the community without actually being an established member of the community.

I'm not sure if it violates our rules or not, but that's why the first two posts mention your join date and post count.

From the tenant POV, I think it's pretty cool as well. Anything to make the process easier. Will there be rating system for both landlord and tenant?

I have always thought this would be a hell of an idea for big ticket retail and sales. We have all of these monitoring agencies protecting consumers, what about businesses? I think a business should have the right to see if some guy ordered 25k worth of furniture then walked away, or held a car dealer hostage on a repair that was consumer neglect.

I've recently wondered if it's possible to develop an online rating system for landlord and tenants like people do with Yelp or Urban Spoon, but landlord/tenant relationships can get so emotional, I'm not sure how reliable it could be. Say some tenant bad mouths a landlord for evicting them, but then the landlord bad mouths the guy for not paying rent. Suddenly you get these needless online spitting matches that get nowhere, or make things worse because neither of you are able to walk away from the situation.

Agreed completely. Similar to a credit score but for your rental rating. We're exploring some ways to build this but haven't gotten quite that far into it yet.

Hi Markpensio,

As a part time property manager and agent who have represented a landlord, I would like to share my experience and insight with you. However before I do that, you must do something for me first.

Please private message me for more details if you're interested

Thanks

In the current market, finding good tenants is like shooting fish in a barrel (assuming your property isn't a dump and your asking price is reasonable). That's my experience anyways...

No longer a landlord but was for a couple of decades. If my views are of interest, send me a PM. I'm willing to help out.

Congrats CP, we've now shown that anyone who's intent to join CP to solicit for their own gain and have no intention on contributing to the community, are welcome here

cant wait for more of these types

^^ I thought Photon's soft warning was sufficient. And I would say that we typically take care of the "spam" pretty quickly. However something like this is not without precedent. It is also coming from somebody in Calgary; and the main reason the mod team decided to allow it was that believed the overall benefit to the community out weighed the spamminess of the post. There are a significant number of regular CP posters who are landlords.
