NHLPA poll 2018-2019
Connor McDavid dominates poll picks for hardest to play against and who would you restart your franchise with
Also, strangely, gritty is popular among the players

Gritty is awesome. Terrifying, but awesome.

The only thing that bothered me was seeing Gio's name missing from the best defenseman. Maybe he's not the best, but to not even be in the top 5?
That's bs.

McDoofus having that much of a lead over Crosby and Kucherov is asinine.

It's NHLPA poll.
More than 500 players voted.

Ah, ok. That makes more sense. I should have fully read the thread title first. Coffee hasn't kicked in yet this morning.

Disappointed not to see Giordano get the recognition from his peers. Also strange that Harvey the Hound didn't get some acknowledgement, seeing how he's the OG.

Yeah. Had they asked the players who you want to lead your team into the 7th game of the cup finals, you would have had an entirely different answer.
McDavid is the most talented forward. Whoop de doo

It's not a poll based on performance for this year only, it seems. So maybe that explains Gio's absence. But still I think he should be up there.
Brad Marchand is the best and the worst trash talker. That amuses me.
I think the funniest players are all on the Oilers. But maybe they mean intentionally funny.
How is Boeser not up there for best hair? And IMO Monahan has glorious locks.
Tiger Woods as favorite non NHL athlete is, well, interesting.

Players probably look at these questions differently than fans and media do also. Best defenceman to them probably means "Who do I hate playing against the most?" Gio isn't particularly physical or flashy, whereas a guy like Doughty will make a forward's job very difficult, even if he's having a bad year

He was one of the most dominant athletes in his prime. Guys in their 20's and early 30's would have grown up watching him dominate the sport and they noted golf as the sport they follow most outside hockey. Makes sense he would top the list.

Drew Doughty the 2nd best defenseman in the league? Was this poll taken last season? What does Gio have to do to get any respect in this league? It's a travesty he didn't get mentioned in the top 5.

I'm sure there are lots of players who don't watch other NHL games. I've known some people who played high level hockey and you'd mention some (not so big) trade or the fact some team is on a winning streak and they would have no idea any of this occured.
Some guys are like Tkachuk who watches games constantly we hear, but there's a lot who when they get away from the rink want nothing more to do with it.

Yeah but they know their opponents as they go over film on teams and people talk in the locker room, etc. The majority of the voters have played against Gio numerous times over the years.

Mcdavid is the player you want to start a franchise with..
Good thing the Oilers are starting a franchise rebuild again.
