Very unlikely klimchuk makes the team. Upside looks negligable at best. Would much rather have too or mangiapane get ice time with the club.
Damn, that's pretty sexy too!

The one thing about Mangiapane is that he is the only left-handed shot among the bubble players (except for maybe Klimchuk), so he may make the team for that reason alone. Otherwise, you have to put Janko on the 4th line to avoid having only right-hand shots on it. Hathaway, being one of those RH shots with less speed and less experience than Lazar, has limited utility other than being an occasional addition to provide energy, so I see him as being the designated scratch most nights.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Neal
Bennett - Ryan- Frolik
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Czarnik
Hathaway - C5 - Lazar
Dube - C6 - Foo

-I want Monahan on one line and Neal on another line because they are the pure goalscorers. Gaudreau and Lindholm can be playmakers for Monahan. Tkachuk and Backlund can be playmakers for Neal.

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kulak - Andersson
- Stone
Valimaki - Prout
Kylington -

-I want Andersson to play on the 3rd pair instead of Stone because I think Andersson has accomplished as much as he can in the NHL and his development will be served by playing in the NHL. The other thing is that I think Kulak and Andersson will be better at moving the puck forward quickly than Kulak and Stone.

I hope that last year was an anomaly but Frolik didn't prove much. Tkachuk or Bennett would be my vote in his spot instead. Also gives some defensive, veteran presence to the third line

Hmmm. Projecting Sam Bennett is no longer a Flame?

It's fun, this is probably the most balanced and deepest FW group I've seen on the Flames in a long long time. Just they way it should be IMO. D corps has many pieces that can move up or down but Im thinking with huska he is going to push for Andersson and Kylington to be on the top starting D corps to begin the season.

Nope! I just missed him. Been a long week I guess haha. Let's try this again:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Bennett - Backlund - Neal
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Frolik
Mangiapane - Ryan - Czarnik
Hathaway, Lazar

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kulak - Stone
Prout

Smith
Rittich

Feel free to swap Bennett and Tkachuk, but I really think Tkachuk could drive his own line and make the line up more balances overall.

I will be incredibly disappointing if Andersson is not on the opening roster. Unless he completely craps the bed, he should be playing.

Under GG, it seemed like they will always give benefit-of-the-doubt to the veteran until there's no doubt that they've been outplayed. It resulted in a veteran-laden opening night roster, with ongoing shuffles throughout the year.

Unfortunately, it looks like Andersson's main competition will be Kulak or Prout. They went out to get Prout for a reason. No way Stone is sent down, and I would argue no way he is the 7th D to start. That leaves Kulak, who I'd imagine the team would want to trade away instead of bury. Ultimately, unless they find a good trade, and combined with any potential PTO, I don't see him on the opening roster.

I do agree with that. Although, I think Kulak will be traded during the preseason (not for much though). There are always injuries and teams need a cheap replacement.

Darren Haynes tweeted this out earlier (roster sheet from the final game of the season)...

Looking at it, I realized that Stewart and Shore are still unsigned (as are Stajan and Versteeg, I guess). I wonder if Treliving might look at bringing one of those guys back on a cheap deal?

Stewart has played his last NHL game. Wouldn't shock me to see Shore turn up somewhere. Still a little surprised he didn't stick with the Flames.

I still like:

1A) Gaudreau - Monahan - Ryan (offensive starts...we have seen that 13 & 23 can carry a decent RW on their own...plus Peters loves Ryan)
1B) Tkachuk - Lindholm - Neal (defensive starts...all are first-line players)
3A) Bennett - Backstrom - Frolik (elite defensive line, allows Bennett to gain confidence)
3B) Mangiapane - Jankowski - Czarnik (young line who can hopefully feast and develop against other teams' worst players)

I think this is a very balanced lineup with two equally strong #1 lines (causing fits for the opposition) and an elite defensive line

All of these proposed lineup look so so much better without Brouwer in the mix. Addition by subtraction.
