20 hr turn around with a sieve in net? This could be ugly.

I want the best out of him no matter what. A Mike Smith that can goaltend helps this team far more than the other options.

Anyone hoping for him to fail just to be right is only doing so for petty pride. Reality is, with the goalie market the way it is, Smith needs to just get through this season as a stable 1b goalie at this point. It's the best thing we can hope for other than Treliving going deep into his bag of tricks to find something long term.

If Smith continues sliding down the cliff wall , we're screwed. Because if Rittich goes down with an injury, yeesh. And I still have hope for Gillies becoming something too. And Parsons may come out of nowhere to provide a crazy story line. But those are all long shots as of today.

It doesn't matter who is playing in net for the Flames. I want them to succeed.

Remember the Nashville game? Maybe Smith has another one in him.

As for Hathaway I hope he's in. He's been the perfect 13th forward so far this year. I actually enjoy our 4th line

He was good against Toronto too. Bad officiating cost him another shutout.

I think it's more than likely that Smith rebounds ... I personally don't think you go from consistent middle goaltender to no longer a starter this quickly regardless of age. I do think it's quite likely he's taken a step backwards though ... to a level that is better than we've seen but not as good as the first half of last season.

That level is what needs to be judged against whatever they have in Rittich for this year.

I want Smith to gain back his confidence for the betterment of this team. We're going to need both goaltenders at the top of their games if we have any hopes of a playoff spot.
