Peters has a bit of that brought up in Detroit (Bowman school) thinking of going with the hot hand.

A team that has only six of them has less options than a team that has ten.

If he gets pushed up the lineup then he's playing well, and the same should be said for Bennett and Jankowksi.

If you agree about Jankowski and Bennett, who else is ahead of him on the depth chart? We're essentially talking about whether Ryan is on the fourth line or not to start.

And Victor Rask was a former 45+ point player with Jeff Skinner and yet Peters had no problem playing Skinner with Ryan.

Also, Aho, Teravainen, Williams, Skinner, Staal, Lindholm, (Rask). There was certainly enough talent up front to keep Ryan outside of the top 6 on paper with the Hurricanes. They lacked top end talent, like Gaudreau, but depth wise they certainly had the 2018 Flames beat. With the addition of Neal, that may not be the case, but the team that scored 215 goals last year, of which the majority was scored by the heavy hitters. Forward depth was up there for the worst in the league, they got a lot to prove this year before we can talk about how deep they are.

Most likely not quyite enough on it's own, but it'd be a big step in the right direction.

On the whole we had a -30 goal differential, you usually need a positive differential to get enough points for playoffs.

I stopped watching the Flames for the last 30 or so games last season. Who looked to be the better overall player during that time Janko or Bennett ?

Okay I was wondering because it seems everyone I slotting Bennett on the 3rd line with Janko on the 4th.

They both had good stretches of play at different times during the season.
If Jankowski had not scored 4 goals in the last game, I think that some people' opinions might be different.

I think that has more to do with the position they play. But if Lindholm gets a shot at center, I wonder if Jankowski gets time on the wing.

Hopefully Jankowski impresses Peters and gets to play center. The Flames haven't had size with skill in the middle like Jankowski for a few decades. I think it would be wise to pivot Lindholm to wing and play the two with Tkachuk. We'll see how it goes.

Monahan is a inch shorter but probably just as bulky. I get what you are saying tho. I'd rather him take the wing position if he is slotted as 4c. If he is 3c or above keep him at center.

I don't think we have enough capspace to re-sign Lindhom, Hanafin, Jankowski, Kulak and Rittich. At least not if we want to have some flexibility - something I know Tre values. I think something has to give with Brouwer or perhaps Stone.

My ideal lineup would be:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal
Bennett-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Frolik-Backlund-Ryan
Dube-Jankowski-Czarnik
Foo

Gio-Brodie
Hanafin-Hamonic
Kulak-Andersson
Stone

Smith
Rittich

...no 14th forward listed as I have a tough time figuring out what to do with Hathaway and Lazar. Kinda like both but know they are replaceable.

Loaded first line, all could score 30 if healthy.
Sprinkle Czarnik and Bennett onto the next two lines with a pair of solid vets each.
Put the very responsible Frolik on the 4th line wing with our most inexperienced center and winger.
That fourth line could torch other fourth lines.

What about this:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett/Jankowski - Lindholm - Neal
Frolik - Backlund - Ryan
Foo/Lazar - Bennett/Jankowski - Czarnik

I think you play Bennett or Jankowski on the 2nd line depending on who is playing well. The Backlund line can play more or less than the Lindholm line depending on how they are rolling or for harder defensive matchups.

I know people are going to be flipped around all over the place to start the season to see what works, but I would like to see Bennett get a chance to play with high end talent and I think Lindholm and Neal can provide that. I think playing on the top line is too much. But if he flounders, then you reward someone who is playing well, that could be Jankowski, who also could benefit from playing with those two guys. If Tkachuk doesn't work on that top line RW spot, then mix it up with Neal.

There are just too many options to predict this, I keep flip flopping, doing research, watching videos, trying to figure out what combos I think will work but it is like predicting the lotto!

If Janko might have played more than the last game of the season with Gaudreau it would have amplified how much better he was than Bennett.

I think that is false. Jankowski is very similar to Bennett in the sense that when both players are ok they look like potential stars but both players had long lapses of uninspired play last year.

Do you guys think Bennett and Jankowski need to be split up?

I think they showed their best when together honestly; just keep them far away from Brouwer.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm/Neal
Tkachuk - Backlund - Lindholm/Neal
Bennett - Jankowski - Czarnik/Ryan
Mangiapane - Ryan/Czarnik - Frolik
Brouwer, Lazar

This is what I hope to see honestly and I think a line of Bennett/Janko/Czarnik could surprise with some heavy scoring if they hit the ground running early.

I would be okay with this

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Jankowski-Neal
Bennett-Backlund-Frolik
Mangiapane-Ryan-Czarnik

I do not see Bennett cracking the top 6 wings with the additions of Neal and Lindholm. If Jankowski takes a big step he could push for a scoring role.

If splitting them means one is on the 4th line (likely Janko with Ryan on the third line) I prefer they be kept together. I think they are pretty good buds off the ice. I saw Bennett,Jankowski, and Gaudreau partying together at cowboys during stampede.
