Flames Why hasn't Jarome Iginla retired yet?

Sign a 1 day contract with The Flames and call it a career.

It's sad that he's just faded away... Is he still planning to play?

I feel like he'll pull a Jagr and sign before TC/Slightly after one starts.

If he wants to keep trying to make a team, then go for it! There's nothing wrong with trying if you think you've still got gas in the tank.

Regardless of the reason, he feels no special attachment to the city, and won't ever be back. His kids are in Boston and that's probably where he prefers to be.

Be bold! Buyout Brouwer and sign Iggy!
They can forget to do part 2 of this and it'd still be a great move!

I have to wonder if he's giving it one more try, or he really just doesn't want to retire a Flame because he sees himself as a Bruin now.

He wants to win a cup. He doesn't want to just play anywhere, and he doesn't see the Flames as contenders. He's probably trying to distance himself from the Flames in the hopes that a team like Boston will sign him. Unfortunately, Boston recently had a large infusion of youth, that will make it hard for him to make the team.

Iginla already had a better retirement from Calgary than anything the Flames organization could put together. December 10, 2013 was his first game back to the Dome. The opening ceremony was devoted to him, and brought him to tears. Then he was awarded 3rd star (in spite of no points) and when he came to take his skate the rest of the Bruins filled the bench, making him do a couple of laps around the Dome to a standing ovation.

I can't find a video of the star ceremony, but found one of the opening. Have a watch and tell me if there is anything the Flames could do that would compare to the raw emotion seen here.

I thought he battled a hip injury or something last year. Assuming he's healed up, perhaps holding out for one last tryout?

All I ask is that he doesn't sully his reputation by signing with his hometown team -- they are in need of wingers but I have to think Iggy wouldn't put himself (or his family) through that...

I remember Conroy saying that Iggy wants to win a cup so bad that will do anything in his power to make it happen. If that means hanging around as a 40 year old waiting for the call, then so be it.

I'm one of those people that doesn't see a player who hangs around past his prime as a mark against his 'legacy'. It's his life, his choice, and takes nothing away from what he accomplished during his best years. Even minimum NHL salary, regardless of your career earnings, is still a massive amount of money.

What a story it would be if he came back at his age and got one last cup run. If you thought OV's cup run was epic...

Unlikely, but would still be cool to see.

At this point what does 41 year old Iginla really bring to a legit contender? Leadership? Doubtful. If a team is on the cusp, I'm not sure why you bother bringing in a pure mercenary ring chaser at that point.

Hang em up.
