Vegas doesn't have a player like Mark Stone. They also have one of the more enviable capfriendly pages in the league - the only players signed past 21-22 are Stone, Pacioretty, Marchessault, Tuch, Theodore and Schmidt.
Great move by the Knights.

The Flames have to be planning on bringing Taylor Hall back home in 2020 and he is a "franchise" player, not a faux internet one. It would be the ultimate troll job on the Oilers to have Hall come to Calgary and be instrumental in winning a cup. I doubt he signs at much more than 9.5.
|
That would be pretty great. I've been waiting for the Flames to be on the receiving end of a free agent star with roots here deciding to go home.
20/21:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Hall - Dube - Tkachuk

Dube is going to be better than Backlund in two years? That feels optimistic.
And I'd rather not sign a 29 year old Hall for UFA money. Love the player but only as a friend.

So Burke was just on the morning show and stated that an NHL GM told him the ask for Stone from Calgary was..(i think i heard this correctly)
1st
conditional 1st on resigning
Andersson
Valimaki
and it would take 11M per to equal the 9.5 Vegas paid cause of tax differences.
For a freaking winger...not even the best winger in the game.
LOL

That's odd. That seems like a ton for Stone but on the trade deadline show, Burke said he spoke to BT the night before the deadline and they expected the deal to go through...before it surprisingly fell apart and BT was likely out.
I wonder if Vegas upped the ask to this after BT agreed to a smaller package (like 3 of the 4 pieces mentioned)? Or was he fine with the package but Stone's contract demands scared him off, once he had a chance to chat with the agent? I suppose more likely, Burke is just lying/wrong about some of the facts. Still interesting...

It might be a timing issue, as that might have been their initial demands.

Vegas' offer is nothing close to this.
Valimaki = Branntsrom
Andersson >> Lindberg
2 1sts >>>>> 2nd
My gues is that the Sunday night deal was something like the 1sts + Andersson and maybe another mid-level prospect, then Dorian came back and demanded Valimaki at the last minute (maybe after Vegas put Brannstrom on the table)

Maybe the trade assets were finalized but the contract talks ended it with Stone asking 11/8?

And then Vegas got him for a lesser trade package as a fallback?

So Stone's contract is not official yet? It's not on CapFriendly. I thought they could send it to the league the day after the trade. Maybe they haven't hammered out the details yet. It would be funny if the deal fell through and he became a UFA at season's end.

Stone's deal can't become official until tomorrow.

The trade assets were not finalized. Dorian wanted Valimaki and Treliving said no. Multiple reports that this is what happened.
But based on the fact that they thought they had a deal in place and then it fell apart, that suggests that Dorian changed the ask at the last minute.

This.
Feel like the return they got was much worse than what the Flames were reportedly offering.
'Playing hardball' and demanding Valimaki seems to have shot them in the foot

Neither one of us know if the trade pieces were finalized and what they actually were. Maybe it was Anderson + a 1st? Similar to Vegas. Who knows.
Either way, Im glad we don't have a 10M winger till the age of 35
