I know this may sound like a management hate right now but to only get their 4th and 6th ranked prospects (1 and 3 pitching prospects) is a bit low for my liking. In a year that Stroman is having, and having a very low dollar value on his contract I’m pretty surprised that they couldn’t get a teams first or second best prospect.

And a pick or two to boot.
The lefty they got sounds intriguing, as southpaws are always a hot commodity. But his numbers don’t jump off the page.
Stroman is 28 with another year of team control. This return seems pretty underwhelming. Hopefully more details emerge and there’s some extra’s tossed in.

Hopefully one of them turns out to be at or like Stroman in a few years.
I wasn't the biggest fan over the years becuase he didn't always back up all his chat, but you can't deny his raw talent and competiviteness and desire to be on that team. He took a big step to maturity when Price was on the team and took him under his wing.
Will see how he does with the NY media and on a team that has its own issues.

The TSN article says Kay is widely considered their best pitching prospect...I know nothing of him but is this not true?

ESPN’s Keith Law had them as the Mets 6th and 7th best prospect start of year.

The Mets farm system slso rates as being pretty poor too. This is a bad deal made 3 days too early.

From what I’ve read is that Kay has 3 above average pitches. But struggles with consistently. He also does not strikeout a ton and gives up to many fly balls. He was ranked in the top 100 earlier but has dropped out due to poor performance in the AAA. He’s also already 24 years old.
I personally don’t like the idea of a fly ball pitcher in the AL east but could maybe be a mid rotation guy if everything hits.
The Simeon fellow seems to have good stuff for an 18 year old and has progressed well. But is obviously 3/4 years from the show.

Simeon Woods Richardson is the piece that will ultimately make or break this deal IMO
Be a couple years before we see him in the majors through. Just 18 in A ball.

While the dream team of Atkins and Shapiro may be ok at drafting they blow donkey dick at trading and most other things.

Neither prospect is currently rated in the top 100. Being the best of the Mets system is like being the best of the Flames' system in the Sutter years.

Pearson
Manoah
Pardihno
Richardson

Williams
Starting to stack up some high end starting pitching prospects in the system.

SRW was just drafted in 2018 and is 18 in A ball. He will be a top 100 prospect very soon.

I don't like this trading of Stroman. In fact, I hate it.

I'm not position to assess the deal as I don't know the prospect, though the info here is helpful.
I don't disagree with trading him now though. Overall it seems like the Jays have waited too long at times, and the player value in some cases has rather suddenly plummeted.
As it stands, Stroman is having a good year and has 1 year left. So in theory his value should be at its peak
I'll leave it to others to evaluate if they extracted that appropriate value.
But timing wise - it seems like a good call if they didn't view him as part of the future.

I bet Stroman is pissed lol
He probably thought he was for sure going to a contender and would pitch in the playoffs this year.

My guess is that he may have had some input in the end. Dodgers and Yanks he'd be just another star. Mets he's going to be one the top guys. Plus the Mets are likely to pay more to keep him after next year, likely moreso then the other two teams. He likes his limelight and he has thst in NYC.

As Syl said, it seems there could've been a bit of a bidding war as the next days played out, with some heavy hitters in there to give up some good players. As per above, maybe Stroman had some say where he went, but the Jays otherwise held all the cards and they sent him away for average prospects at best.
And the only future plan that the owners didn't have him in, at 29 when he continues in the prime of a pitchers career, is on the Rogers, and their $1.8b annual profit, payroll budget worksheet plan.

Wow, can't believe the return. I mean, maybe one turns into something, but kind of unlikely after reading up on them. We got two of the Mets better prospects but it seems they are pretty meh league wide.

Yes, and Woods-Richardson turning into a top 2 or 3 starter at the major league level is just about the only thing that can save this trade. As it is, he's a good 3-4 years out and we're pinning our hopes on an 18-year-old pitcher.
Ultimately though, this was a trade that never needed to happen. Stroman wanted to stay here, and would have provided huge stability for the pitching staff as the kids grow into major leaguers. I'm really looking forward to seeing Vlad, Bo and Biggio next month, but I'm even happier the Mariners will get my money and not Rogers.
