I think being a 2 year deal is a bit of a vote of confidence for him as well

@Fan960Steinberg
#Flames have re-signed C Adam Ruzicka to a two-year contract. $762,500 AAV.

Two-way deal for year one, one-way in year two.
That’s the sort of deal that gets you a spot on the big club.

I really like AR’s game - big, skates well, plays centre, has some skill.

Maybe that’s the last top-9 forward.

Seems like Treliving likes this structure. Isn't this exactly with they did with Gillies?

No risk, buys an extra year at minimum if he does catch on this season and become a regular.

He would probably full-time in the NHL already on lot of other teams. Too bad the Flames set the bar very high for young players to make the team and log jam the bottom spots with checking grey beards.

I'm of the belief that young players should have competition to earn the spot and not just have it gifted to them.

The poster know it’s a good contract. Just their schtick to be negative.

It's a good deal.

But also a risk because the low salary makes him easily claimable as well if he doesn't make the team out of camp.

Still the right call though, hopefully he can stick out of camp.

It's interesting he's represented by Craig Oster who also reps Tkachuk, considering his comments about him wanting to be captain.

Yes but he now has gauranteed money of 375k this year and 775k in year 2.

In the AHL he was making around 90k a year. Feel free to check my numbers.

This is a huge raise for him if he is playing in the AHL.

That said would love to see him be a regular on the NHL squad. Unfortunately I dont see a spot open for him unless an injury happens.

I really liked Ruzicka's play last year outside of his last couple games late in the season. To be honest I had low expectations of him but he really impressed. In particular, there were a handful of games right before the Jarnkrok trade where he was centering Mangiapane and Toffoli, and that line looked a lot better than it did with other centres. Of course it helped that they were functionally a third line with Backlund and Lindholm taking on matchups, but even Monahan and Jarnkrok were provided the same roles and did not impress me. And Ruzicka looked solid centring the fourth line as well. Lewis had a strong playoff but I think Ruzicka was a net positive last year when in the lineup, and his production was not a fluke.

He has poise in spades. I know Sutter wants him to be more aggressive, but you can't teach poise as easily.. looking forward to seeing him play
