Taylor Hall - UFA in 2 years
I think it’s worth at least some discussion about this scenario potentially shaking down much like Tavares and I thought be interesting to see what kind of contracts are coming off the books, who could step up within our depth in order to make room for Taylor at that time and what people’s thoughts are generally about the idea of landing Taylor Hall.
Key contracts ending in 2021
Brouwer - 4.5 mill AAV
Frolik - 4.3 mill AAV
Czarnik - 1.25 mill AAV
Brodie - 4.65 mill AAV
Hamonic - 3.857 mill AAV
Stone - 3.5 mill AAV
Gillies - 700k AAV
Obviously some of those players will be extended but with the strength we are building on D I could see both Stone and Hamonic being dealt at some point for futures to open up space going towards the 20/21 offseason/UFA period.
The flames look very well positioned at this time to bring in a T Hall type contract in 2 years and should still be able to have a good cap structure going forward to be able to extend the big 3 in Gaudreau, Monahan and Tkachuk; especially with a lot of offensively skilled type forwards in the system and Lindholm/Neal on deals without clauses.
How to you guys see the potential of signing Hall?

I still don't think that he is very smart. I'm pretty sure that he could be tricked into signing just about anything.

I'd love it but I highly doubt it will happen. Tavares was a once in a blue moon thing. I don't think we'll see that become the norm.

If the Flames are highly competitive in the next two years then yeah i could see this being a potential landing spot. He would have to make it to ufa first though.

An ex-Oilers player signing with the Flames happens, but an ex-star who left on shaky terms signing with the Flames seems unlikely. If for nothing else, it would be an intense, high pressure contract for him if he doesn't perform, from both Cgy and Edm fans.
Seems like there are better ways to enjoy your career, to me.

If he has another year close to last year then Jersey will re-sign him long term for big money. Doubt he ever makes UFA and if he did it would mess up our cap structure anyway to try and sign him. Also we are pretty set at LW with Johnny and Tkachuk.

Yup. If he keeps playing like he did last year, in 2 years he is going to get $9 + million.

You are aware he grew up a huge Calgary Flames fan right?

Will we be able to or want to sign him to a 12 million dollar deal, because if he keeps lighting it up, thats what some GM will blow his brains out doing.

Gaudreau for Hall at some point next year?
Both players go home/close to home.

So you're going to trade a player with better production on a longer bargain contract for a guy that's going to be a free agent in a couple of years?

No. Can we please stop trying to trade our superstar?

If Gaudreau wants to go close to home and doesn't want to re-sign another contract, then why not? Especially if Hall is wanting to come home and play and he'll extend.
Gaudreau has an extra 2 years on his contract, and is younger. His value to us is more, but Hall just won the Hart and is worth more to NJ at the moment.
Very unlikely it'll happen. Just a discussion point.

Sure, it's not going to happen. Superstar for superstar.
Not like we haven't see crazier trade proposals posted here before.
Walking away now.......

Your making assumptions that Johnny will want to go home, its a question that we're not going to need to worry about for a good long time.
So what if we bring Taylor home to replace Johnny, at that point he's probably going to want 10 to 11 to 12 million bucks based on the market, so we're going from 7 to 12 million dollars for what we hope is the same production, which I doubt will happen here because we would be losing one of the leagues best playmakers and adding what is basically a sniper to a line of snipers.
There's nothing that makes sense to me in terms of trading Johnny for Hall. Clearly I'm not saying he's not a good or elite player. I'm saying production to dollars it makes no sense.

Maybe, or the opposite.
Hall hates the Oilers now. If he thought the Flames were poised to win it all, it would be a nice slap in the face to the team that ran him out of town.
But yeah, unlikely anyway.

I get the idea that us as fans want to see a home town guy come here and stick it to the Oilers. But I would suggest to ask yourself, if you had a great job, paid well, established home and possibly family.... Would you uproot to go play in a different city just because? I know I wouldn't. It would take a pretty big family draw or some sort of negative impact from my current position to make me make that move.
Hall signing with the Flames sounds cool, but I don't see him leaving unless he's forced to via trade. Tavares being the exception.
