No details yet. 3 year extension though.
Wish he ended up as a Flame.

Maybe not at that price.

Great timing for Fleury, cashing in on a career year.

The fact of the matter is that Vegas is going to go through a transition and have a lot of cap space and Fleury is basically a hero at the moment. 4 years is nothing.
This was an astute move, even at those dollars.
The scenario is totally different on an expansion team, a lot of his value is going to come from getting people to come to games just to see him and that solidifies the brand.

MAF is good, but not 7 million dollars good. I am happy the Knights are using up cap space they probably should be using more carefully.
He is an incredible goalie while he's on and would have looked good in a flaming C. That being said I am not sure he helps the Flames into the playoffs last season as he only played 46 games due to injury. Smith played 55 also due to injury.
We had to rely on Rittich/Gillies who both pooped the bed when the pressure was amped up. If that had continued on for another 11 or so games we'd likely be in an even worse spot in the standings.

Solid goalie with a proven record and apparently a great teammate and face of the franchise.
400+ wins and Career .913 Pct. 125+ Playoff games too.
3 additional years for $7mm is money well spent here.

For every playoff series where he'd look godly, there was another where he looked average (SCF against the CAPS) and terrible (number of times over the years). He's a good goalie but not 7 mil good. The cap creeps up every year it seems so I guess 7 mil is not as much as it used to be, but that's still a lot for a goalie.

The Flames absolutely would have made the playoffs with Fleury. Had he not taken a knee to the head like he did in Vegas. Not sure you can blame him for that one.
He’s a top 5-10 goalie in the league, every year, easily. Any goalie who can consistently put up ~ 9.20 save percentages for over a decade is a pretty safe bet to be your starting goaltender.
He has bad games, like every goalie. But he can also steal you several per year and in the playoffs. Which few can.
If this is the current value of a legitimate starting goalie now, this is a great contract.

Good for them. No use moaning about what if he signed with the Flames-he was never going to go there anyways...

He’ll even go as far as to say that had Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford crafted a deal to send Fleury to the Flames at last season’s trade deadline, the 32-year-old goaltender would likely have waived the no-trade clause he has in his contract.
“I think so,” said Fleury while in New York for league meetings.
“I think Calgary is a great town and a great hockey team too. I think they’ll be very good again this year. But here I am.”
|
I think if he ended up with the Flames, he would have been here for the long haul.

Burning money is still burning money - even if you have a lot to spend.
Also really doubt that many people are going to the games see the guy. Its not like he's that big of a star.

He is a huge draw and a face of the franchise. I don’t know if you can quantify that in number of people who go who otherwise wouldn’t, but he is that big of a star there.

Any time you can sign a good player for shorter years it's a pretty good deal.
What would Vegas had done at the end of next year he wanted a 5-year deal?
The shorter term meant that the cap hit would be higher. I'd prefer for Vegas the 3-year term at $7M rather than a $6M deal for 5-years.

Hes their playoff Hero. They're an expansion team that went to the Stanley Cup Finals on their first try!
Yeah, in Vegas hes a huge deal. He is arguably the face of that Franchise and when you're brand new you make deals like these.
Its a good contract. Not just because of what he brings to the Franchise and the expansion, but hes still a really good goalie.
Its a lot for an older player, but I dont bat an eye at this contract. I think its solid for a lot tangible and intangible reasons.

He could've worn #14, won a few Cups and then we could finally get that name and number up in the rafters.

By all accounts he is one of the best teammates in the league which might count for a little more in a goalie.

Still don't think he's bringing people out to buy tickets. He's just the biggest name and first pick.
I'm sure the Flames marketing materials show Monohan on it. Also don't think Flames attendence would change if they traded him.
But anyways - this contract pays him until he's 38 or 39. Its risky to go that long on a guy at that age.

Three years for a 33 year old star goalie who's been to three Finals as a starter.
Who cares what his cap number is. It could be $10M and Vegas could handle it for three years.
