Hmmm, no. I just assumed because it's been a few years that they wouldn't even entertain it. I'm not sure that I have the police file number anymore, but could probably dig it up with a few phone calls. Worth a call for sure.

I would do the opposite for this issue. If you're confident that there is no ongoing leak issue, the discolouration is the only problem you're dealing with. Spraying Kilz or any other paint will not match the rest of the ceiling.

If it's a textured ceiling, spraying a diluted bleach/water solution can completely remove stains and completely blend in with the rest of the ceiling.

We are renovating our entire kitchen. Should we get a garburator or not? Worth it?

Renovating our kitchen as well. Had one previously but not putting one in again. Don’t see the need for it and I find it a hassle.

^ Do you enjoy picking bits of half eaten food out of the strainer or something?

Every time I visit my family in BC (municipality doesn't allow food disposals) I feel like I'm back on little house on the prairie. Scraping dishes and then picking up the little bits in the sink after the dishes are done. Its disgusting.

Best $150 you can spend in a kitchen, reno or not.

More importantly, pasta arm is a must have!

Food goes in compost. Water goes down drain. Dishes go in dishwasher.

Admittedly the use cases for garburators have gone way down. I only use mine for soup and leftover milk and cereal.

Yeah since we started having to put things in the compost, we use the garburator a lot less.

Thanks for the info, I think we're skipping it.

The pasta arm though, that I want. Likely skipping as well because I don't want to pay for the extra plumbing it would take. Would be a cool luxury though.

Agreed we use it way less with the green bins now. But think of the 100 times you rinse a dish and a few bits end up in the sink. I couldn't imagine choosing to be a caveman and pick those bits up out of the sink when a garburator is such a cheap option. The time is now to rough in for one (aka electrical and switch) if you're doing renos.

Its an absolute no brainer even if you rarely use it.

Bare minimum put an electrical outlet in the cabinet. Then you can use one of these handy things and don't need to wire an electrical switch if you decide you want it later. I ended up doing this when I re-did some electrical and didn't want to cut into a wall to wire a switch.

Why not use the drain? Why are you picking crumbs out of the sink?

Well I do, as it flows through the garburator. But I'm talking about people who dont - think of all those errant noodles, lettuce leaves, corn kernels, that don't fit through the strainer that you then need to grossly pick up and throw out (or mash it by hand through the strainer).

I get it if we were talking a $1000 or $5000 luxury, but you can get them for $100 these days. And if you're already doing all new plumbing for a reno, it is literally a no brainer.

If I went to buy a house and someone had done a reno and not included one, I'd seriously start to wonder what else they cut corners on.

We don't have a significant amount errant food so I guess I don't understand the issue.

On a very rare occassion I guess I'd lift out the strainer and dump it in the compost 18" from the sink.

I'd prefer to have the cabinet space instead and not have one drain that is slowly building up the fine food debris that eventually smells and I need to run the garburator just to clear it, which I would never have to do if it wasn't there.

I cut corners on my renovation because I didn't put in a garburator? lol

Grab strainer by centre tab, dump in compost, put back in sink. No need to touch any "gross" food.

Not having one is hardly "cutting corners". They're also rather large and take up a fair amount of under counter space that can be better used in smaller kitchens.

The only thing I miss with not having a garburator is egg shells. Peeling hard boiled eggs without running water is the worst.
