Gillies is still waiver exempt next year and needs to develop consistency and better rebound control before making the jump full time to NHL.

And what makes you think that about Lack? He's 2 seasons removed from being a 0.921 S% from his days in Vancouver. He unfortunately did not do well with the type of systems Carolina wanted him to play. He has yet to even start a game in Calgary. He's not going anywhere this season.

The notion that you could pick up Mrazek for Lack is about the same as trading Brouwer for Crosby.
And of course we have folks cruising in to defend Lack on the previous page. Yes he has not been “given a chance” (except, presumably he practices with these guys every day, no?) but the fact of the matter is coaching refuses to give him a start and it’s not like there’s been no opportunity yet to give Smith a break.
Lack is terrible and in the preseason he looked terrible.

Why on earth would we want Mrazek? We have Smith and a glut of young goalies. Acquiring Mrazek would put a roadblock in the way of Gillies/Rittich and make it harder to transition to our young goalies.

Mrazek was also terrible last year and doesn't have a great reputation. Not sure why the Flames would want him. The Lack for Mrazek suggestion is one of this rare ones that literally makes no sense for any of the parties involved

Except that Mrazek is terrible. I agree the Wings wouldn't want Lack but why would the Flames want Mrazek?

I was using gross hyperbole but point still stands. Mrazek’s 4 years younger and has better stats. Also, the eyeball test is in Mrazek’s favour. He’s a better goalie. Let me ask you this, who would you rather have as a backup?
It’s an easy answer.

Lack.
Good guy, won’t have a lot asked of him, and his contract expires this coming summer.
Why? Because if Smith goes down with an injury - it’s going to be Gillies that gets the starts, not Lack. Gillies > Lack/Mrazek.
So for the 10 or so games that are going to be asked of our backup, yeah I’m fine with Lack starting them.

Mrazek makes four million as the bonafide back up this season. The Wings would give him away at this point. His sparking 3.24 GAA so far must have swayed you?

The Wings have already tried to give away Mrazek several times. I think they would jump at a Lack/Mrazek swap.
Personally I think Mrazek is going to be a stud and probably should have been Brad's target this summer, especially for what he would have cost. Smith is likely the better goalie right now but he's not a long term solution like Mrazek could have been. I don't really understand the Wings and their insistence to go forward with Howard instead of him.

On what basis do you think he's going to be a stud? The Wings have gone with Howard because he's been better
I don't understand the fascination with Mrazek

I thought I heard rumours last year that Mrazek had a very poor attitude as well as entitlement issues? At the very least it's been reported that Lack is a tremendous teammate and person overall.

A solid AHL/playoff resume as well as 83 games worth of NHL experience while providing decent numbers.
So far the only major blip is last season and at 25, people are well inclined to give a lot of leeway that he'll be better than last season.

Canadiens are determined not to make any panic moves
Don't get the sense there is any desire to remove Bergevin right now
Sakic is looking for 3 pieces for Duchene. Current player, draft pick, and prospect
He wants a blue chip prospect like Sergachev that Tampa got in the Drouin trade
Some talk about Vancouver getting into the mix with Juolevi but Juolevi doesn't have the same value as Sergachev
Brian Boyle expected to start practicing with team soon.
Cam Fowler out at least a month. Maybe 4-6 weeks.
CHL does not want to release their players to Hockey Canada for the Olympics.

Send the Allan Cup Champion like they used to do.
Looks like it was won by the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts in 2017. There just aren't enough teams named after diseases out there.

So the ask is a Sergachev level prospect, plus a pick and a roster player (guessing good value roster player).
I dunno maybe he'll get it but holy hell.

Because of the likely nightmare of overpaying Backlund I'll throw this out
To Colorado:
Backlund, Brouwer, Andersson and 3rd
To Calgary:
Duchene and Colborne

I appreciate where you're going with this, but honestly the flames get worse after this trade. I value Backlund more than I'd value Duchene.
