If you're looking at getting a trainer for the winter, Ridley's is doing Wahoo, Tracx and Kinetic demos from noon to 4pm tomorrow. They'll be showing off Zwift too and giving away gift certificates if you purchase.
If you can't make it tomorrow, they're doing it again at their Okotoks location next weekend.

Thanks for the heads up on this! I just dropped by earlier today and was able to test them out. I ended up going with the Kinetic Smart trainer. The staff were very helpful.
It was hard to walk out without getting a bike. I have my eye on the Giant Defy, but id like to find a good deal, possibly on an used one. I've really just started to get into biking this year and have yet to get a road bike. I've been riding exclusively on my mountain bike so far.

I avoided it, i can't afford an $800 trainer at the moment. It was hard.
Also, I have a Giant Defy, just go for it, best decision you will make.

If you use the Crowchild trail bridge be aware it is closing on November 6 until Spring 2018 in conjunction with the Crowchild trail improvements that are starting up.
Closest crossings are Edworthy park bridge and 14th street bridge.

Got out on my bike for a 25k spin today, and it was sweet. I was a little overdressed though.
Hoping to ride to work tomorrow morning, but will see.

Passed 5000km this morning! Not sure if I've ever ridden this much in a year. Lots of time to break 6000 as well!

That is impressive! Like a century a week with a couple months to spare. I really have to get on the bike more often...
On that note, does anyone have any recommendations or warnings for car bike racks? I'm looking to get a hitch rack and wondering if there are any great and or terrible racks out there I should know about.

I've driven to Moab and back with a Yakima roof rack with no issues. Same with my Thule T3 hitch rack, multiple trips to Vegas and back.

I prefer the tray type. Easy to load, and no rubbing or swinging about. Swagman are an affordable option, MEC has them. Mine has been really good.

I have a rocky mtn blizzard - took me a while to get fat, but it is sure fun going for a spin in fresh pow-pow
I use a ski helmet to keep the ears warm and ski goggles to keep the eyes clear.
Allow money in your budget to purchase appropriate clothing that you may not already have

I have a swagman quad 2+2 tray type rack that I purchased from MEC for ~$550 an number of years ago now. It has been a solid tray rack for me that has carried our bikes to fernie a few times, and as far as bend.
to me the issue with the roof rack is the potential to forget about it and wheel into your garage, or you get the front of your rig covered in bug guts.
swagman racks are solid for the price, but not nearly as attractive as a kuat rack, which are twioce the price.
niorthshore racks have a interesting design where your bike hangs, and 1upusa gets a lot of love on some MTB fourms

For the Swagman, get the one with the silver trays. The black ones are pretty skimpy.

Northendzone, I was researching the Blzzard 50 last night. A buddy has the same bike and likes it. Does the suspension make much difference given the soft tires? I checked out Direct Bikes but I didn’t like some of the quality control issues I read about. I’m leaning towards the Norco Bigfoot 2.
I have budgeted for clothing. I already do lots of outdoor winter activities so I am good to go there. The ski helmet is a great tip.

late in the FB season I sold my trek Farley 5 and bought the -50, so my thoughts on the suspension are still out, but I do love the blizzard because it handles a lot like my thunderbolt.
having a front shock makes it a possibility to ride year round. if you are just planning on using your fatty as a winter bike, then to me a dropper post is a better spend. but if your are thinking about the suspension fork, then spend the money up front as that is the cheapest time to buy the fork.
the reason I fell for my blizzard -50 was due tot eh sweet purple paint job.

I have another bike for my main riding which I’m looking to upgrade in 2019 as far as my budget tells me. The fat bike would be primarily winter riding. The dropper post is on my list.

Well folks there are good strava times out there today for those of us lucky enough to be riding to the south. I have not ridden much in the past month and logged two PB's, two 2's and a three....also at 39 minutes likely had one of my quicker commutes of the year

Beautiful morning out there.
I'd like to say a big eff you to the clown who had 4 big dogs off leash who started chasing me on my ride in. Keep your damn dogs under control.
