By that logic, no prospect, ever, would be good enough for the NHL.

lets keep the troll food to a minimum.

If this kid turns into any kind of nhl player it was a huge win with the pick. If he is the scorer he is looking like he can be, grand slam. After all, in the sixth round this was a swing for the fences type pick.

If memory serves. 6th round pick. Un drafted in first eligibility? excellent point totals in ohl?

That's what I always hear them being called in the Flames videos so I take no credit for making them up.

If he was a perimeter player I'd be more skeptical but he scores many of his goals in the tough areas. He's shown great progression since being drafted and for a 6th round pick he's been nothing short of amazing.

It will be interesting to see if Mangiapane translates. He isn't that elusive type of small player like Gaudreau. He is feisty, and physical, and reminds me more of someone like Gallagher from Montreal.

Will his size limit him as his bread and butter game is going to the net, or will the defence in the NHL - bigger, stronger, faster and much wiser - nullify his offence?

2 years ago, I would have put a large sum of money against him. Now, I think he may pan out. If he is doing this well in the AHL, it is because he has a tonne of smarts to go along with his nose for the net. He is finding ways to remain effective and transition into the pros where guys are all bigger faster, and coaches develop sound defensive systems that players buy into.

Mangiapane might really end up being a good NHL'er after all. To be so adamantly dismissive about his chances is not looking at the prospect outside of his height and weight.

Why is it so amazing? He was drafted 166th - same as Fleury. Martin St. Louis and Giordano weren't even drafted.

Obviously his size was a strong factor for his draft position, yet his size (5'10" 182 lbs) is comparable to some of the greatest players in the game.

Probably because those guys are also amazing but needed the time to get to the positions they all are or have been? not saying he gets to those levels but they are the exception, not the norm.

His development is still baking in the oven - you don't want to blow at high dough you know!

Let's play a game. Here's a list of players:

Mark Giordano
TJ Brodie
Micheal Ferland
Kris Versteeg
Mark Jankowski

(looking around the league)
Tyler Johnson
Ondrej Palat
Patrick Sharp
Brad Marchand
Cam Atkinson
Anthony Mantha
etc.

What do they all have in common?

Spoiler!
