It would be the Flames sending something back to the Yotes, otherwise they are getting rid of $5M of cap for nothing.

If Boston really wants Lucic a couple of teams could get involved to chop the salary a couple of times. Flames and another team eat 50% he only counts as 1.3M but I don’t really want the Flames to have 2.625M in dead cap space.

Through the comments as well it so clear this is not an announcement for an upcoming interview

My view is there is not a ton of incentive to pay to have someone take Lucic unless this clears the path for Kadri or they are getting another improved piece back. Definitely seems like there is a real desire to get the band back together from 2011. Lucic adds team toughness and veteran leadership and costs the flames little in salary.

I understand what Lucic adds but IMO he's not a guy that should be playing 82 games. He really ran out of gas in the 2nd half of the season and I hope Darryl manages him a little better next season.

In a world where Desauliers signed a 4 year deal worth 1.75 million a season, Lucic DEFINITELY has positive value at 50% of his cap hit right now.

Only one team can get involved, however, as Edmonton is already retaining on the deal. I think Lucic at 2.625 has real value here.

You get the (arguable) NHL's tougest heavyweight deterrent, plus you get a guy who is a great 4th liner, and you get a tonne of leadership.

Again, Desauliers (who I like, but not that much) signed a 4 year term. Lucic is still the better player, the tougher player, and the better leader.

The mystery insider that broke the Necas extension early and a couple other hits also mentioning Lucic/Boston connection.

If we lose Lucic after losing Gudbrandon, then who do we add to fill that role? No way Sutter is happy without some force in his lineup.

I don’t disagree but with 1 year left I am not interested in trading futures or young players to dump that contract. Huberdeau has a 4.6M raise coming up next year which chews up 88% of the cap space gained by Lucic expiring

I would rather keep him than emove him for even a 3rd round pick as this team has bled enough draft picks over the past year. I can stomach one more year of this contract but I just don't want to see him on the ice every game. I have no issues with a $6 million player spending half the season in the press box if it means the team is better on the ice.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I recall hearing some rumors around Hanifin for Carlo a couple years ago. Idk if I would be interested in that because I haven't watched Carlo play much, but similar (slightly lower cap hit), RD that is in the same age bracket as Hanifin.

Personally I would rather use Hanifin to get a top 6 forward

Rooney fights but he's not very good at it.

I can’t see this being a big blockbuster with Hanifin or others going back. I do wonder what the Flames will do with the space if it goes down?

If they move the entire cap hit they will have over 7.5M in space so Kadri could happen?

To Arizona: Valimaki, Folgino
To Boston: Lucic (50% retained by Arizona)
To Calgary: 5th round pick (Boston)

Sign Kadri to a 4x7.5M deal

Carlo would become our 4th best RH dman. Seems silly

Our skill group got bigger this offseason, so a big deterrent is a little less necessary than it was before.

Well as long as they aren't getting handled by Nurse and E Kane. That would be just sad.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Lucic as part of the last hoorah for Boston. They know this is their final year with Bergeron and likely Marchand too. I’d love Chara to sign there for one more year too for a run as their 6/7.
