Flames vs Stars, 7:30pm Mountain Time
Arg I want to chat about the game but nobodyyyy is starting a game thread.
Talbot is getting the start tonight. Frolik is also in and Quine is out.
FBI's Game Day Thread record: 1-0-1
I will donate $50 to CP if Bennett gets a hat trick.

About time!
I was getting sick of the implosion of our fan base in the Cherry thread.
Thanks for taking the initiative!
Dallas are 7-2-1 in their last 10 so it should be a good one.
I'm interested to see what a few practice days have done for the Flames.

Taking a while to get to 5000

As good as any game to get Talbot in I suppose. Both he and Rittich have mediocre records against the Stars but I wonder if this isn't setting up for later in the week with Rittich in Arizona and Talbot getting the nod in Vegas where he has played marginally better in his career than Rittich has. Very small sample size, I know.

Yeah I kind of expect us to come out slow again and shake the rust off, but I hope not. Maybe a rejuvenated Frolik will help Janko get going, I mean for the love of God let's get at least one fricken assist here.

Was working on this when I saw the thread posted.
Okay, so I think everyone is probably ready to get back to some on-ice hockey content to enjoy and talk about. Hopefully we get a great game tonight with the Flames coming off a long break at home, which ought to have provided plenty of opportunity for practice and rejuvenation.
See calgaryflames.com for 5 things.

2. THEM
The Stars are an impressive 7-2-1 in their last 10 games after a dreadful start to the season. They fell 3-2 in overtime to the Jets in Winnipeg in their most recent game.
|
The Stars have rebounded from a horrific start to the season and have got themselves back in the race in the Central division. There was some drama this week when coach Jim Montgomerey made some disparaging comments about the Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin:
Quote:
“I don’t think they’re driving pucks too often,” Montgomery said, according to DeFranks.. “In general, our team, not driving pucks to hard areas enough... You need your No. 1 center, you need your No. 1 left winger to step up and do more.”
|
Source
However, the Stars Benn and Seguin appear to have accepted his later apology and taken the comments in stride.
The Flames came out on top 3-2 in an earlier meeting this season which you may remember Johnny Gaudreau scoring a beauty in the shootout.
Flames projected lines:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Mangiapane-Backlund-Tkachuk
Bennett-Ryan-Frolik
Lucic-Jankowski-Rieder
Giordano-Hamonic
Hanifin-Andersson
Brodie-Stone
Talbot
Stars Projected lines:
Benn-Dowling-Seguin
Radulov-Dickinson-Perry
Cogliano-Faksa-Comeau
Hanley-Pavelski-Gurianov
Oleksiak-Heiskanen
Lindell-Sekera
Fedun-Polak
Bishop (as far as I know)
Players to watch:
Calgary - Andrew Mangiapane: He has 3 goals and 7 assists so far in 18GP this season and has seemingly worked his way into an extended look at the empty slot on the 3M line. His confidence with the puck appears to be growing and I am curious to see if he can continue to establish himself as an offensive threat. He was my darkhorse 20 goal scorer selection prior to the season and, while he is not quite on that pace, it still seems plausible to me if he can stay on that line.
Dallas - Corey Perry: One of the most consistently booed and despised players at the Saddledome over the years, Perry is slated to play in his 1000th game. He was bought out by the hated Ducks in the off-season and landed with the Stars in an effort to catch on with a strong team and respark his career. His season is off to a middling start with 4 points in 11GP, but he has been a frequent thorn in the side of the Flames over the years and it will be interesting to see how he performs tonight in a big game.

Man, that was pretty light criticism to require an apology. Sutter would say stuff like that all the time.

True. And that is how they took it too:
Montgomery said he apologized to Benn and Seguin as well as team today for comments after Jets game. Said he was emotional. Benn and Seguin said they didn't need an apology, said they need to be better.
— Mike Heika (@MikeHeika) November 12, 2019
Jamie Benn on Montgomery's apology: "He's right, there needs to be more expectations out of myself. We didn't need an apology. It's hockey, we're all grown men around here. Leave it at that, we're moving on."
— Mike Heika (@MikeHeika) November 12, 2019
Tyler Seguin on Montgomery apology: "Coaches are allowed to say that stuff. I'm not losing sleep over it. I'm a great judge of my game, and I know when I'm not playing well. Obviously, results are needed in this game, and results aren't there now."

Perry playing game #1000. Pretty much guaranteed at least 1 goal.
Glad to see Talbot back in. Please do something, anything, Jankowski. Go Flames!

I know that people like to whip Frolik in what will likely be his last NHL season, but Jankowski to me has been the most disappointing player this season. I can't forgive guys like Frolik and Lucic who 'are what the are' but I have zero patience for Jankowski. It is time for him to contribute.

I like the fourth line of Lucic-Jankowski-Rieder. Just skate, bang in the corners, and play some gritty hockey. Janko has the skill but just needs to be more engaged right now.
Putting Frolik with Ryan makes sense as well. Play smart two-way hockey, and let Bennett mix it up and generate momentum.

donated mine to Kids Up Front, same as last week's Coyotes game.
You can't even get close to STH cost right now.

Maybe the stats prove me wrong (too lazy to look up), but I've always felt that the Stars have had the Flames number over the years. Benn is having a down year, so what better time for him to get a multipoint game then tonight. Perry is a jerk, I'm sure he'll find a way to ruin our night. Bishop perhaps brings out his in Vezina.
Hopefully I'm wrong on all fronts. 7/8 points on the homestand would be huge going forward and we could potentially leapfrog a couple teams in our division.
