What a weird thing to say from Friedman. Either they don't want him playing because he's detrimental to the team, or he's being moved but it may take a while. Wonder if he just packs his bags and leaves, wouldn't put it past him.

I’d take Kovy here, more center depth. If they take Frolik and retain salary I’d look into it.

If they took Frolic and ate enough money to make it a wash for salary, would he be worth it?

Lucic + Janko for Kovy and Amadio.
Though if the Kings aren't finding Kovalchuks services useful, they likely don't want Lucic in return.

I think the Kings hope he jets back to Russia and save a few bucks. Confusing deal from the get go.

Trading Lucic for Kovy would be like bringing back a Neal and here we are at square one. Although the expiring offer is enticing.

Hardly -- the expiring offer is more than enticing, it would make it a landslide win for the Flames. Not happening.

Sounds to me like Kovy's not willing to waive his NMC.

People really need to come to terms with the fact that Lucic is our problem now.

We don't need an LW that can't contribute better than the top 2 we have right now, and can't contribute anything on the bottom 6.

We can do better. Kovalchuk would have been great before Neal. But Kovalchuk dont want no Canadian team sweater.
Toffoli is about the only thing of interest to me from L.A

The Flames need a righty on PP2.
Kovy fits that bill.
Lucic (with some salary retained) + Oilers 3rd from Lucic/Neal trade for Kovakchuk.
Flames get away from the almost the full cap hit of the Neal disaster.

I'd do frolik + a prospect like nikolayev or a 3rd for kovalchuk if the kings retained 33+%

Why would the Kings have any interest in adding that sort of contract?
And if Calgary needs a right-handed shot for the powerplay, why not put on Derek Ryan, who outscored Kovalchuk last year?
I'd have absolutely no issue with Kovalchuk if the Flames could somehow offload Lucic for him, but I can't see any desire from LA's perspective to add two additional years of huge money into the payroll, even if they are familiar with Lucic.
