I live in Ramsay and about once a year we get strange smells that waft into the neighbourhood but I assumed it's from the Lilydale factory.

It's likely the wind and the train yard..
Or the smell from the yeast plant... (If it's more musty)

I want to call the city, but saying it smells odd in Inglewood is kind of stating the obvious. I'm used to the random smells and occasional odour from the train yard, but this has been about 3 full morning and evenings where bit smells like a diesel bus running across the street.
Can't be very healthy.

When the wind is right you can get a nice whiff from the waste treatment plant.

Likely an inversion layer keeping the exhaust from the locomotives trapped near the ground.

Conditions were ideal for a temperature inversion last night between the hours of 10 PM to 4 AM.

Well, they did start ripping down the Shamrock. There's 100+ years worth of debauchery suddenly exposed to open air.
