Astros closer Ryan Pressly has gone 8 perfect innings since blowing a save a couple of weeks ago. That has to be extremely rare.

Rizzo/Lerner made that offer knowing Soto/Boras would reject it. Soto’s 23. The offer was for 15 years, which removes him from any meaningful FA class for the remainder of his time playing baseball.

The AAV on this offer is less than what Judge rejected from the Yankees. It would have been relatively nothing to get it to an even $30MM per year, which lends further credence to them wanting to trade him after saying “look how hard we tried”.

To trade for Soto you probably have to give up the largest package of picks/prospects ever, and then sign him to a minimum of 15 years and $500 million. So that basically leaves the Dodgers, and if you only have one team who can afford the package then good luck getting value. Odds are they eventually meet his price.

Yankees. Trade for Soto and let Judge walk.

Ignoring that they likely don't have the prospects/picks to make it happen, they've shown an unwillingness to break the bank for Judge, a huge superstar in that market, so why would they do it for Soto?

Soto is 7 years younger and the better player. Judge is a late bloomer.

And he'll also cost probably $200 million more than Judge, so it's not really apples to apples. Hal isn't the old man, I can't see him spending $500 million + on a guy, plus gutting the farm. If the Mets weren't in division I'm sure Cohen would make it happen, so there is always them. But I expect if he's dealt he's a Dodger.

I think Judge eventually settles with the Yanks, personally. He's a nice guy, and when the Yanks give him a relatively fair offer he'll sign on. Can't see him in another uniform and I'm sure the Yanks are playing hardball but deep down don't want him to leave either.

As for Soto, price is steep in so many ways. How can any one player not named Trout or Ohtani command that salary? Even then they're one team in a team sport. Seems like a great way of typing up salary for most teams' financial situation.

The Jays will trade for Soto . I would say at worst are 50/50

They have quietly been linked to him for a while

I would imagine the Nats would prefer to trade Soto to an American League team so they don’t have to see him multiple times per year.

If there’s a team that could offer enough in prospect capital for Soto, the Rangers certainly are among them. Would need an extension to make worth it though.

Geez, I don't even want to see what we'd have to give up for Soto

But that would be cool

Turned it on for 3 minutes, and I thought they couldn’t make it more unwatchable if they tried.

That was fun to see Pujols compete. I love the respect and admiration he is getting from all the young Latin American players. Funny how his career is kind of fading away yet we got gaudy farewell tours for players like Jeter and Ortiz. Nice of the MLB to include him in the All-star festivities though.

I hope anybody but Alonso wins. That dude is such a dweeb and somehow makes the homerun derby douchy.

The lustre has come off for each's sports "skills competition" of some sort. They're gimmicky, children aren't naive enough to buy into the mysticism anymore, and they're just sponsor driven nonsense. Admittedly the baseball all-star game is the most remotely watchable but for all sports it's silly. They keep saying it's for the kids but most kids can't afford tickets anyway. It's just a way of keeping the sponsors happy, and it's one big circle jerk along the way. Yes, Debbie Downer, but the vast majority of years suck. This is for every sport.

Sandy Alcántara not starting the All Star Game for the NL. What a joke.
