Recommend me a cobbler?

I'm looking for some recommendations for a quality cobbler who can be trusted to resole leather welts on some quality footwear. Polishing service not needed, just a quality repair job. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I've used the shoe repair place in Southcentre a few times. He does good work.

Good luck! Its a dying tradition and one that should continue because you can get so much extra life out of quality shoes, we have become too much of a throw away culture! My grandfather was a cobbler back in Greece so I respect it!

Alpine Shoe Service in Kensington. He's the only professionally trained cobbler remaining in Calgary. Don't go anywhere else.

Gino's Modern Shoe repair on 32nd Ave NE and Center Street. Modern may be questionable - Gino has been repairing shoes for 70 (seventy!) years. He does amazing work. Great guy. His wife also does alterations. When ever I take my shoes to him I get a free lecture on how to lace them properly, how I should be caring for them, and usually fresh fruit from his garden! He is as great for the experience as for the work!

Sadly, I believe many of the homes on his block are being taken over by the city for redevelopment, and once he moves he is shutting down his business. Give him a try while he is still there. You will enjoy him.

I have taken shoes/boots there years ago and he did good work but was expensive. Have never used Southcentre fella, but bought some polish off him the other week and ended up having a nice 20 min conversation.


OT, but what constitutes "professionally trained cobbler"? Is there a school for cobblers? I would have thought at this point it was all OJT.

I believe you missed the point again. You can spend $30-50 to have your shoes resoled at a cobbler, or you can spend $300 to buy a new pair. I'm also saying that even if you have $300 for a new pair of shoes, it still makes more sense to take it to a cobbler. You've now argued on both sides of going to a cobbler, so I have no idea what your point is. Maybe you're just excited about all the happy new years you'll be receiving.
