I was looking at Capfriendly, and I'm a bit confused.

But it looks like the Leafs are sitting at 84 million so they are 3 million over the salary cap right now and still need to sign Marner who is probably in the 9 to 10 range. So if they sign him they'd be at about 94 million or 13 million over the cap.

And holy crap are they ever boned the year after this one.

Who goes to sign Marner?

I do not see them keeping Nylander past this season. They need to re-sign Barrie as well next summer. Barrie is cheap this year, since Aves kept 50% of his salary.

Consider that they have Horton and Clarkson ($10.55 million) to go on LTIR and it makes a bit more sense.

I'd really like to bring in Williams but just like Thornton he's probably stubbornly set on staying in his current location.

I think he would be an asset for the kiddies in learning how to win in the playoffs.

Well these playoffs he did, Marchand can have that effect on even the most level headed players in the playoffs. Williams overall track record in big games/series speaks for itself and even last year he was awesome in the first two rounds. I’d love to have him as a greybeard on this team and would take him in a heartbeat.

Great job Scorp! I wouldn't mind Thornton or Williams, depending on the contract hit and length-they still have a bit left in the tank. The one guy who is surprisingly intriguing though is Lindberg-seems like a bigger, grittier guy for the 4th line to perhaps replace Hathaway. I didn't know his metrics were that good though, so thanks Scorp!

Sure that takes them to 73 million against an 81 million dollar cap. So they have to pay for a 8 million dollar contract from Marner.

The big trouble is next year, when they're at 55 million with 11 players signed and their entire blueline except for Reilly are free agents.

To Scorps point in his write up on Maroon; wouldn’t it be crazy if we went full ex-Oilers and brought him in to fully beef up the line up? Still trade Brodie+Jankowski package for a top 6 winger and still trade Frolik and Czarnik for picks.

Frolik for mid picks
Czarnik for late pick
Brodie+Jankowski+Mid pick for Gallagher or Toffoli (preferably Gallagher)
Sign Tkachuk and Mangiapane then with what’s left bring in Maroon for 1 year

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Bennett - Gallagher
Lucic - Backlund - Mangiapane
Maroon - Dube - Ryan
Quine

Giordano - Kylington
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Andersson
Yelesin/Davidson

Rittich
Talbot

That’s a lineup that wouldn’t get pushed around that’s for sure! Just having fun with it though and realize this is a very unlikely scenario lol! Especially the Gallagher trade.

Can you fit Reider in on a low salary?

Thornton and Marleau are both going back to San Jose. Its just waiting to see what the cap numbers can be at the last minute. I'm sure part of the Lebanc deal was that Uncle Joe will pay your room and board for the year.

I suspect Williams and Carolina is similar just more along the lines of Dundon waiting for a bond to mature so he will agree to pay him.

List is getting pretty thin though. Outside of Gardiner there is not a lot left that do not have their heart set on a chosen city.

His career highlight is against the Oilers.

Shattenkirk would be wise to sign with a team like Tampa Bay and reset his value...the 30-year-old defenseman is far likelier to exceed expectations if slotted in the right spot on a contender.
Cross one off the list. And booooom pat-on-back.gif
