Icon25 Caps trade Burakovsky to the Avs for 2nd, 3rd, and a minor league player

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Hearing some Burakovsky with Colorado. We’ll see

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Sounds like the deal will be Burakovsky to COL for a 2nd and the third the Avalanche just got from ARIZ in the Soderberg deal.

Ryan S. Clark @ryan_s_clark
The Colorado Avalanche have made a trade with the Washington Capitals to acquire LW Andre Burakovsky in exchange for two picks and a minor league player who is not a prospect, a source has confirmed to The Athletic. #Avs

2nd + 3rd.

This is good news for Bennett's value if the Flames ever decide to trade him

Burakovsky over soderberg short term is not an upgrade. Good move for the longer term though

First there's Steve Konowalchuk, now there's Scott Kosmachuk

What is it with the Avs and Caps trading these crazy names between each other?

A lot of teams getting s*** done. Moving players for cap space, acquiring picks, upgrading the roster.

Gotta think we will see something out of the Flames soon.

Pretty good for a guy they were thinking about non-tendering.

There was obviously a decent market for him.

I expect Bennett would get a similar or better return.

Bennett is worth far more to the Flames than a couple of picks, numbers aside Burakovsky is not a good comparison to Bennett.

Yes, clearly, but should the Flames ever try to trade Bennett, Burakovsky is a good comparable. Very similar production, Bennett has higher draft pedigree, and hits more. It's good news for the Flames that Burakovsky returned as much as he did because that means they could probably get more for Bennett.

Nowhere in my post did I suggest that a Bennett trade made sense right now, or is something the Flames should consider. But it's good to get an indication of leaguewide value for a player similar to Bennett in production or age.

So it seems Burkavosky asked for a trade. Don't think that was reported before.

https://www.nhl.com/capitals/news/ca...vs/c-308116296

Quote:
Burakovsky is a swift and talented forward with plenty of upside, but his five-season run with Washington was dotted with injuries and inconsistency that kept him from reaching his full potential, which is a top-six winger who is capable of scoring 20-30 goals in a given season. At his age, there is still plenty of time to get there. But last season, his ice time and his role on the team were diminished, leading the winger to request a deal and a change of scenery ahead of the Feb. 25 trade deadline. Burakovsky asked to be moved to a club that would allow him to play a top-six role. The Caps were willing to accommodate him, but spent some time hunting around for the best return they could get, both at the deadline and at the NHL Draft in Vancouver last weekend.

"We pursued it at the deadline, but it would have had to be a home run then," says Caps general manager Brian MacLellan. "We would have had to bring back a player at that point; to trade him for picks at the deadline didn't make any sense when we were trying to put together a playoff run.

"Had the player not requested the trade, I would have preferred to keep him in that third-line role for this season."

if the Avs can unlock Burakovsky, it would be a very good acquisition for them.... smart roll of the dice for colorado imo
