I expect Marleau will return to SJ for League minimum, which is also what they will re-sign Thornton for this season.

I knew they were in a pinch, but just glanced at their roster. At the moment the Sharks have just SEVEN NHL forwards under contract.

kudos to Dundon. The fact that the owner is willing to burn money like that for a good future asset is a good sign for the Canes longterm.

This shows Dundon is not just wanting to be cheap. He is trying to be efficient with the money usage. He gets an extra 1st rounder, which is excellent currency, irrespective of if they make the pick or use it for something else

What initially looked like a dumpster fire under Dundon has turned 180 degrees. I am impressed by what that organization has managed to accomplish over the last calendar year. Is there any more efficient means of accumulating 1st round picks than purchasing them as was essentially done in this transaction? At the end of the day it's nothing but money to the owner and as a GM it has to feel like Christmas receiving high draft picks at the cost of no organizational assets.

Well Dundon might be good in some ways but his influence is potentially bad in other ways. His hardline stance on contracts cost them two really good young players in Lindholm and Hanifin and time will probably show they didn’t get good value for them. His rule that they will only take forwards in the 1st round is straight up bad. Defenseman are very valuable and passing on the best player available isn’t an efficient move.

He’s got some pros and cons for sure. I wouldn’t want him to be the owner of my team.

He will suck on the latter half of the season going into the playoffs. Bet on it!
