Bax is referring to Filip Johansson who was a very off-the-board pick.

For the sake of the NHL, I hope Hextall gets the gig. He needs to be an NHL GM and help improve the quality of a perennial middling squad.

Fletcher got fired for not doing enough to make changes. Leipold doesn’t seem very patient.
Hextall is the picture of patience. Lost his job because he felt carter hart needed more seasoning. Ironic that Fletcher takes charge and Hart is lights out. Hextall good gm but needs the right fit. Can’t see it working with this owner.

That man should never, ever run an NHL team again. What more proof does one need after looking at the shambles the Oilers are in and as well the Bruins had to pick up the pieces and retool after he was fired.

From the sounds of it Fenton fired might have had something to do with ownership meddling. Sounds like owners want a puppet and for that Chiarelli is definitely your guy

wow some of the stuff in here:

Not only was Boudreau upset Anderson was kicked to the curb, but it also created the perception that Evason, whom Fenton called one of the best coaches outside of the NHL, was put on the bench to ultimately succeed Boudreau. Also, sources say, Fenton, on a handful of occasions both last season and afterward, sought permission to fire Boudreau. Leipold wouldn’t give it. Boudreau, who will now be coaching for his third Wild GM, enters the final year of his four-year contract after Fenton declined to give him a contract extension.

There were a number of people inside the organization who were worried that over that month leading into the trade deadline Fenton became too singularly focused and “obsessed” with getting Fiala, whom he feels could become a game-breaker. It apparently took some convincing from his staff to keep Fenton from giving up more than Granlund and even retaining salary.
|
Quote:
Fenton was proud of his one-for-one “hockey trade,” but very rarely in the NHL is a known quantity like Granlund traded for an unproven player without getting another asset back. It sure sounds like Fenton’s old mentor, David Poile, strung him along for a month to the point that Fenton thought he was getting a steal when Poile finally agreed.
“David knew he had him and played mind games with him all the way to the deadline,” a league source said.

Here’s the problem though: According to Hurricanes sources, the Canes planned to buy out Rask this summer and watched Niederreiter 10 times in the weeks leading up to the trade. There was consensus on their pro side that if Niederreiter got elevated minutes in a top-six role, he’d succeed in Raleigh. However, according to sources, not a single Wild scout was sent to watch Rask in person, and there were already limited viewings because he snipped his finger during a kitchen accident last offseason and missed time.

Your yearly reminder that outside of a handful of talented people the NHL is largely run by idiots and cavemen.
Now chiarelli is going to get another job.
Nothing about the frolik for Zucker situation made any sense at all and now we know why.

Re: Fenton retaining salary, apparently he didn't know that when you retain salary it applies to every year of the contract. He believed it only applied to one year, according to Russo.
That's why he had to be talked out of it. He fired the salary cap guy then had to be talked out of retaining salary in the Granlund trade because he didn't know the rules. Unbelievable.
