Default Jersey Poll - All Time #26

Did this five years ago, thought it might be interesting again. Always fun to see younger fans and older fans arguing over different generations in a battle.

Will put one up a day whenever possible.

Have fun! and Go old guys!

How it works:

I pick off a key group of players for each jersey. I don't use every name, as that gets tedious and unnecessary (probably go with say 5 unless there are many that wore the same number).

I also don't put up a guy for the number he isn't known for (Iginla shouldn't win #24 for example)

Results:
1 - Roman Turek 67.8% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=138746)

not as star studded as other numnbers but some very likable players.

Went with Reichel ... he was a top 3 player on the Flames at one point. Loved Smelly Mel and Bozek too though. Nilsson was a horse.

Mel. Can't forgive Robert for missing open net.

Reichel was super talented but so frustrating to watch. Went with Nillsson because he was all heart and worked so hard out there. This one should be close though!

Went with Reichel, but man the first thing I think about every time I hear that name is that play. I mentally can picture the canucks goalie way out of his net and Reichel pinging it off that left post.

Picked Ranheim, don't know why. Just did.

Couldn't for the life of me vote for Reichel.

Yeah, if he wore #26, it wasn't for very many games.

It looks like he wore 26 for 5 games at the end of the 1988-89 season, then switched to 28 the following year.

McLean made the pad save. It was a bang-bang shot that would have gone in the middle of the net. Big save, gotta face facts.

You are right...must be my memory saying why "the middle of the net, should have shot closer to the post". That hurt watching that.

Nilson came an inch away from scoring the cup winning goal. If he had done that - wins this in a landside.

I went with Bozek.

Back to back 40 goal seasons. Had to go with Reichel.

What happened to that guy? He went to Europe and came back a different player.

I chose Reichel thinking I would be in the minority.. Im actually surprised how many people think he was better than Ranheim.

Watching that hurts. There would also by thousands of #26 Nilson jerseys in the Dome every game, including one on my back. Just the look on his face after the save is heartbreaking. I still think of the off the charts hysteria in the Dome if that puck went in... and how I would've reacted in the crowd.

Thought Reichel even before I opened this thread, none of the other selections changed my mind. He had two 40 goal seasons with us. Very impressive offensive player.

Bridgman was a very good player back in the day, but his tenure was so short.

I was a big Ranheim fan back in the day, but I remember him more as 28, not 26. Besides, he doesn't quite compare to Reichel.

Bozek was a solid player too, but never really challenged Reichel's skill level.

Nilson…fond memories for being part of an 04 run, but he wasn't really that good of a player, at least offensively.

Wideman…don't get me started. Besides, he belongs at #6.

Huh. It's funny how many people base an entire career with a franchise off one or two plays. Reichel's awful because he missed one chance in an important game? Nilson would have been legendary for scoring a goal in an important game? This is stupid as far as I'm concerned. Does anyone realize how many great chances Iginla has missed in important games?

Judge a player on their whole career, not one or two plays where things can go for or against you so easily.

He was certainly a better #26 than Ranheim.
