Jersey Poll - All Time #6

Did this five years ago, thought it might be interesting again. Always fun to see younger fans and older fans arguing over different generations in a battle.

Will put one up a day whenever possible.

How it works:

I pick off a key group of players for each jersey. I don't use every name, as that gets tedious and unnecessary (probably go with say 5 unless there are many that wore the same number).

I also don't put up a guy for the number he isn't known for (Iginla shouldn't win #24 for example)

Loved Sarich but Phil was one of the best. It was fun to watch him play because of his offensive game.

Housley and him were both great and I looked up Housley only to realize he played here on 2 separate occasions

Tough, tough choice here.

I loved Nattress as a person and player, but he wasn't quite an impact player despite being part of the cup winning team.

Phil Housley was amazing offensively, but pretty awful defensively and he made me pull my hair out at times.

Sarich, the dependable, physical, stay at home bottom pairing defender, but just wasn't a big enough player for me. Still, was a minus player just once in 6 years in Calgary despite some very limited offensive skills and some marginal teams at the end. Also, can't forget the huge hit on Marleau in the playoffs.

Ken Houston averaged 20 goals a year back in the late 70s and early 80s. Very impressive for a defenseman, and his +/- wasn't too bad either. I never got much of a chance to watch him play, so maybe some of the older posters can fill me in, but those numbers are too impressive to ignore. Houston it is.

Housely had way more offensive talent, but if you had a one-goal lead with a minute left and a faceoff in your end, you'd want Ric Nattress (with Jamie Macoun) on defense.

But if you were down by a goal and had a faceoff in the offensive zone, you'd want Phil on the ice.

Went with Nattress because I love defensive defensemen. Plus, he was mean.

Voted Housley. Wish I could have given a .51 vote to Housley and .49 to Nattress though.

Phil Housley is the #2 all-time point scorer amongst Americans, beating guys like Roenick, Mullen, Leetch, Lafontaine, Chelios. Only Modano has more points.

He can never live up to the guy we traded him for, but he was a great player in his own right.

Housley had the much better career, but Nattress had a much longer and probably bigger impact on Calgary.

Phil the Thrill for me.

The guy had some amazing moves and vision. Still remember some of the shifty end to end runs he would make.

Was a fan of Sarich and Nattress, but their hockey skills combined don't touch Housley.

If anyone votes Brad Stuart they totally deserve a punch to the face.

Houston played the right side if I remember way back to the first year in Calgary. Big bugger ... think he had hepititis in his only season in Calgary and missed a tonne of time too.

I really liked Housley as a Flame. He seems to be a polarizing player for some people though.

I take these polls as who was the best player with that # while a FLAME.

Example, if Fuhr had the same # as Kipper, Fuhr would have to win the poll (Hall of Famer, multiple cups, etc.). But that is obviously absurd, no?

So in the case of Housley, he only played 20% of his career as a Flame, and never in his prime.

Nattress played almost 50% of his career as a Flame and was a top defensive d-man for a Cup winning team.

Who had the better career? Housley, by far.

Who was the better player? Housley, by far.

Who was the better Flame? I am going with Nattress.

I loved watching Housley on the ice. He was so creative and a real offensive catalyst. He was simply one of the best offensive d-men to ever play the game. Not just in Calgary but in the NHL. Loved the guy.

I can't believe the support for Phil. This poll isn't about most talented, but who best represents the number in your mind.

When I think of Phil, I think of the selling of our best assets to US teams, I think of the Young Guns, I think of those awful jerseys, I think of a guy who didn't really enjoy being in Calgary and certainly didn't play with heart, I think of his awful helmet.

The guy put up points, but seemed like an a-hole.

The competition doesn't really inspire, but please vote for Nattress as a vote against Phil
