You or I could have coached that Pens team. This will be closer to the Sabres run than anything IMO. A lateral move at best for a franchise that needs to keep the excitement going of their sophomore season after taking a step back.

It's not surprising they are being cheap on the hire. They are paying someone 2 years to go away.

Spending on a coach probably doesn't make sense with that roster.

Teams should start hiring coaches for just one season at a time. If things go well, give them another year. If it goes poorly, try another guy. If you’re rebuilding let them know at the start of the year that they’ll be graded on progress of the younger players. If the team is contenders then it’s based on playoff success.

I’m sure GMs will just keep doing the same thing over and over again though. Why try anything new? If you do and it isn’t instantly successful you’ll be fired and never work in the league again.

Like the Flames going from Sutter to Huska. A curmudgeon to a players coach. Players do really like to play for Bylsma apparently.

That sounds like a massive distraction for them, I wonder if they just bring they money bags to him and finish it off.

The new expansion teams sure seem to fire coaches on a whim. How many have Vegas had since year one, and now Seattle with a change after a couple seasons.

Maybe a big change in how clubs are being run, with no patience and need immediate improvement. Sure a change from coaches lasting 10 years or longer.
