Roman Polak opted out also. So a few more but not anyone that I think is a top player yet.
And on a side note Stamkos is hurt already. Don't know why people keep putting him on all sorts of Olympic and World Cup teams, never performs if he makes it to the tourney even when he isn't hurt.
Does Polak even count? He said long ago he wasn’t coming back because he was signing in Europe.

If Hamonic won't play in the playoffs then he probably won't play next season because Covid-19 will still be an issue. Meaning he will be out of hockey for at least 1.5 years. For a guy who is on the decline it's will be tough to get a team willing to give him a decent contract if he wants to to return to the NHL.

^ Was just thinking this. There’s a good chance we’ve seen the last of Hamonic in the NHL. No Covid vaccine, Salary Cap Freeze, Declining Skill Set, Movement Towards Young, Cheaper Players are all going to make it difficult to justify signing him. Winnipeg is possibly the only option for him. Would he be willing to take a huge pay cut to stay in the league?

Travis. Thanks for all you've done defending your team mates.
Representing the team in the community . Glad you wore red and most of all showed what a father does when his family needs him.
God.bless.
Did you tweet that at him?

On the topic of fathers, I wouldn’t have so much god stuff in my announcement
Meh. It's well known Hamonic is a Christian so if he wants to thank God, Zeus or fallen angel Lucifer then all the power to him. He's a good a person that's ever played for Calgary regardless of who he thanks.

I think it's appalling that you feel comfortable insinuating that he should feel ashamed of his faith.
That's a pretty low comment. You'll probably get padded on the back for making a light attack, can you say something like that? Yeah. Does it improve your character and integrity? No.

The Flames aren't overflowing with players with the stones to jump into a scrum to defend a teammate, send a message and drop the gloves if needed. Hamonic is one of a few. That is the aspect of Hamonic the team will miss the most, especially against a bigger and scrappier Jets team.

- avoid injury? The guy is hurt all the time because he puts his body on the line for his team, but now he wants to avoid injuries? Doesn't make sense.
- a good playoffs wouldn't help him as a UFA?
- even if there's a small chance he contracts Covid and passes it along, there's still that chance. When you have a daughter who's recently had health issues, why take that risk? For our entertainment?
There are bigger things in life. Family is one of them. Travis is making 100% the correct call and I'm stunned anyone thinks it's a poor choice, or is negative about it or questions it as him having some ulterior motive. It's a no-brainer for him and his family. Glad he has the spine to do it, and give the fans a very reasonable explanation why. The guy is a total class act.
No one under the age of 10 has died from Covid in the USA and America has had over three million cases. The rationale is pretty dumb

His daughter has a respiratory illness. While perhaps the chances are high that she'd be OK, I certainly wouldn't take the risk.
But go ahead and pass judgement that he should try to win a big shiny thing by bashing a round black thing around with sticks, because that's more important.
